Rare mil76 Posted June 15 Author #229 Share Posted June 15 Today we are sailing through a pocket of semi-decent weather 57/14. Time to put on the wetsuit and go to the Flowrider.
Rare little britain Posted June 15 #230 Share Posted June 15 (edited) There was apparently a huge thunder storm last night around 2am. I slept like a log! The forecast winds and rough seas have not materialised- it’s very calm and dare I say, sunny out there! Top tier this morning. Half the ship are not C&A members Edited June 15 by little britain

It's a short walk from the port. https://floyen.no/en The Funicular is great, gives you a wonderful view & yes the lines for tickets can be long so buying in advance is sound advice. The bad news is that it rains a lot in Bergen & then That view vanishes,we were there several years ago & were lucky to get an hour or so before the weather moved in & it was time to head back down, sadly that also was a Sunday & hardly anywhere was open, hope things have changed since then!

Half the ship are not C&A members Thanks @little britain for the Top Tier. My streak of missing these continues.🙂 I also heard the most represented country on the ship is....Australia? Not sure if I believe that one. I didnt notice the thunderstorm either. My expectations for weather this cruise are so low that a day like today is considered sunny and balmy. I have done Alaska the past 2 years in September and I think I saw direct sunlight for about an hour total, so I am geting used to bad weather on cold-climate cruises. Today's weather reminds me of 3 and 4 day Navigator cruises out of LA in winter. Only difference is the Scots are the ones out on the Flowrider In just swim trunks rather than the Canadians. 🥶

Rare mil76 Posted June 15 Author #237 Share Posted June 15 Formal night tonight. People are dressed to the nines. We went to Jamie's. Chicken parm was great. Was so full I couldn't do dessert. 10pm and this is the view from the balcony. But look what we are sailing into. This guy was waiting on the bed.
Rare mil76 Posted June 15 Author #238 Share Posted June 15 Firestick update. It has been working great the whole.trip. This is a game-changer for us on longer cruises. Sometimes we don't want.to do repetitive ship activities, and we just want to relax in the room and watch some TV. I also know that I'll never miss a sporting event I care about on a cruise again. Been watching Euro2024 via Fox network in the US. Haven't even bothered to see if it is on the ship's channels. England-Serbia is planned for the pool deck tomorrow at 9pm. I hope they have back up plans, because that could be wet and cold. I programmed the Firestick remote to control Samsung TVs, and now if I press the home button multiple times quickly, it switches the input to HDMI 1, which is where I plugged the Firestick. So my additional remote may not be necessary. I also confirmed what @Biker19 posted earlier that not all Android phones will hotspot wifi in airplane.mode. Our new friends from the Lisbon tour have a Firestick with them, and a Galaxy S21 phone. Whenever I start the hotspot on the phone and switch to airplane mode, the hotspot automatically turns off. I did some Googling and it looks like if you are.out of airplane mode the phone will use the wifi for the hotspot, but who wants to take that risk? 1

DD and I were lucky and gorgeous weather. We hiked up rather than taking the funicular and the views were great. Half the ship are not C&A members I'm actually amazed at the C & A numbers on these two cruises from the UK. There were almost 1100 top tier on the Canaries cruise with 84 Pinnacle and 65 Pinnacle on this one. Its not welcomed changes, but no wonder there our Crown Lounge and Suite Lounge access restrictions now in place.

Ergates The Ant Posted June 16 #243 Share Posted June 16 First time we visited Bergen, the queues for the Funicular were too long for us, so we walked up and back down instead. Can’t remember how long it took, but it was a pleasant enough walk. Saw one of the ships officers who had run up, and was running down again! As you are there on a Sunday, expect to see lots of local families also out for the walk. It snowed briefly when we got to the top! Did I mention the Resistance Museum? Very interesting, an easy walk from the Bryggen, free to enter and clean loos! We enjoyed it very much.

Rare little britain Posted June 16 #245 Share Posted June 16 A day of sunshine and light showers ( which given how often it rains in Bergen we got off lightly! ) We arrived at noon and were off by 12:15. Pleasant stroll into town, walked around the fish market, and scenic Bryggen areas. A few touristy shops were open.
Rare mil76 Posted June 16 Author #246 Share Posted June 16 Wow what a day that turned out to be! We left the ship with the mob and headed towards Bryggn. As we reached the fish market it started raining, so we thought the day would be a washout. By this time I regretted eating in the Windjammer right before we left the ship.
Rare mil76 Posted June 16 Author #247 Share Posted June 16 Once we reached Brygnn the rain let up a bit, and although we planned to skip the funicular, we went to check out how long the queue was. Sure enough, the queue was halfway down the hill, but we realized that was the ticketing queue, and people with tickets could skip that queue and go inside to wait on the actual funicular queue. So we bought tickets online, and within 10 minutes we were heading up the hill.
