A (small) reason to buy beverage package—-avoid Juneau sales tax

Am I correct that the local tax only applies when docked.. so stock up! It's like an added port charge!

I believe Juneau is a long city, running down the coast, and the definition of when the tax is levied is when it is in city limits, which go out 3 nm from any part of the city.

I also did the West Coast cruise and had the Premium Beverage package.  I had several cocktails while in California ports tied up to the pier and was not charge sales tax since I had a prepaid package. If I didn't already have a package I'm positive I would have been charge 10.25% L. A. county sales tax on cocktails purchased before we reached international waters.

Actually, state jurisdiction, and therefore their taxation ability only extends out 3 nm from land, while international waters begin at 12 nm.
