Wine Tasting Lunches Worth the $?

Anybody have experience with the food and wine pairing lunches offered on Cunard?

I'm on the August British Isles tour aboard the QM2 and booked two of these special lunches. There is another scheduled on the Southampton to NYC crossing, but before booking that one I'd like to sound the board as to whether the $80 charge is worth it. Also, I assume they won't duplicate the wines and food pairings. True?

I did one last year and wouldn't do it again.  The food and wines were good, but not $80 good.  The biggest problem was that there was a long talk before each course, in all instances by a struggling non-English speaker.  This event was only offered once (12 days).

Thanks for the response. Not considerting the cost, would you say you learned anything about the wines and pairings that was especially insightful?

No.  I had too much difficulty understanding the speakers.  I was sitting with my back to the center of the room, which didn't help.

Again, thanks for your comments. I'm at the point in my wine education that I didn't expect to hear anything I didn't know anyway.

I'm glad to hear the wines and food were good.

I don't need to go to a tasting.

I know Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc goes with everything, well apart from cheese and then Ice Wine sorts that out. 🙂

This was the menu from September 2022 on Queen Victoria. We enjoyed it and didn't have any trouble understanding the Sommeliers. English may not be their first language but they were certainly competent.

And I assume you sat down to a large dinner that evening?

We were on second sitting dinner but my comments suggest we gave it a go -

We didn't really do justice to the menu but it was still a nice meal.
