exlondoner Posted July 17 #2 Share Posted July 17 If you have manageable luggage, it is quickest and cheapest to go on the train via London.
Thejuggler Posted July 17 #3 Share Posted July 17 A few options by train. Southampton to London Waterloo, transfer by tube in London to Kings Cross and train to York. Takes about 4.5 hours. Southampton to Birmingham, change to a York service. Takes about 5.15 hours Southampton to Reading, Reading to Paddington, Paddington to Kings Cross, Kings Cross to York. Lots of changes, takes 4.15 hours if all goes to plan.

Mind you, the service is so often very late that you can almost bank on getting some of it back. Incidentally, although the Waterloo to Euston service on the Underground involves a change, if you take the Bakerloo to Oxford Circus and then the Victoria Line, it is a very quick and easy change.
