Denali Star Train vs White Pass Railway

We will be doing an August cruise with some advance land exploration that will take us from ANC to Denali aboard the Star Train and then back again. Is the Skagway White Pass Railway a totally different experience or much the same scenery that we will see prior to the cruise? Yes, I understand they are two different locales. Just trying to decide what we should do in Skagway and I hear the White Pass Railway is the main draw. Thanks for any advice and sharing your experiences.

Completely different experience. The history of the White Pass train is worth it. I actually recommend the train/van combo through Chilkoot Tours.

Note that the White Pass railcars are restored antiques.  Narrow wood seats not particularly comfortable on the incline.  Historic.  Have done it a couple of times but now prefer Dyea Dave tour to Emerald Lake.
