Rare POA1 Posted July 26 #1 Share Posted July 26 (edited) DW just noticed this in the Navigator app yesterday for our 7 Day Caribbean in mid-March. No menu link yet in the app. Nothing on the HAL website. (😯 Behold my shocked face.) We also have Morimoto at Sea listed for Tamarind. I'm surprised to see so many pop-ups for Tamarind on a short cruise, but our week is paired with 14 Day East / West itineraries. Edited to add that we're on the Nieuw Statendam over St. Patrick's Day. Edited July 26 by POA1 Added ship. 2
Woofbite Posted July 26 #2 Share Posted July 26 I suspect they are adding more pop-ups because lots of passengers have eaten in the regular restaurants so many times they crave something new. I wish they would freshen up the menu in the Pinnacle. I guess they did in Canaletto but many argue not for the better. Haven't had enough opportunities to eat in Tamarind yet to be bored with it.
Navybikermom Posted July 26 #3 Share Posted July 26 I ate at a Rijstaffel dinner on the Rotterdam. It was fantastic! 2

I've seen the dinner menu, which was posted by @Crew News I'm curious about the a la carte. I wonder if it's going to be like the Nami Sushi a la carte.

As my server was describing each item, I asked which she recommended and was surprised that I got everything on the menu. I would consider this a sampler platter with just a sample bit of everything.

That is my experience too. It's a 'Tasting Menu' rather than 'À La Carte'.
Rare POA1 Posted July 26 Author #7 Share Posted July 26 I've seen it as a tasting menu with a price, but this clearly marked a la carte. (It could be wrong in the app though.)

oakridger Posted July 27 #9 Share Posted July 27 A Rijsttafel by definition has many dishes. If it was a la carte, wouldn't it then just be a dinner of Indonesian food? 😉 ~Nancy 2
Woofbite Posted July 27 #10 Share Posted July 27 Call it a "tasting menu" if you like but it was enough food for a family of four and as noted, you didn't choose items, they served everything listed: 1
Infi Posted July 27 #11 Share Posted July 27 It's a little strange to see it listed as A La Carte, but thinking that's a typo. I wonder if HAL makes more money off the pop-ups or if they are just testing to see the market for Rijsttafel on various itineraries. I enjoyed my Rijsttafel on Rotterdam last month, but out of the 3 nights I dined in Tamarind (Tamarind, Morimoto, Rijsttafel) it was by far the least crowded night. On a related note, the servers remarked that Rijsttafel is their easiest service due to the tasting-style menu and less room for customization. WANative Posted July 29 #12 Share Posted July 29 Hello, has anyone seen the rijsstafel pop up on an Alaska cruise? Specifically on the Koningsdam? Thank you!
ellbelle Posted July 29 #13 Share Posted July 29 I’m all in and would book it if offered. Back in 2013, we did a B2B Alaska coined a Collectors Cruise and one of the perks was an Indonesian Lunch. It was a sampler menu, every dish was excellent and it was the best meal I had on that trip. Maybe something like that was offered on other cruises but I must have missed it or the name threw me off.
