Anyone had any success in upgrading to the New Enhanced Premier from the Current Premier ?

Recommended Posts

I added the new Premier Cruise Package on Saturday and booked all my specialty dining today. Cruise is Dec 21... No charge to CC for any of the restaurant reservations, no struggle or difficulty, etc.  Worked great, took maybe 10 minutes to get 14 nights booked, and it automatically cancelled our my MDR reservations..

In my book, it's a well done by Princess.

YMMV.

I had a look at my reservation on the Sky Princess today  and the casual dining seems to have been reduced from unlimited to 2 on the premier plan, it is still 2 for speciality restaurants

I was just able to do the same for Majestic Princess departing 12/1. I used chat to upgrade to the new Premier and was then told I would need to call in to make the payment, buy actually was able to do in on the website. After that, I was able to make all the reservations. It is kind of confusing, though, because it will show the cover charge of $78 (for 2) and shows the credit card on file, but then the total says $0. My credit card hasn't seem to have been hit with any charges.

I was able to upgrade through the chat for two bookings today, but can’t book specialty dining without paying up front.

First time I tried, our credit card was charged.  I signed out of the app, restarted my phone and signed back into the app.  I was then able to book specialty dining.  The app makes it look like it will bill the card on file, shows "Cover Charge (Adult) x 2  $78" then below that it shows "Total: $0.00".  I upgraded on Friday, and was able to book SD on Sunday.

same experience here. This is similar i understand if you order stuff on board on the app, shows the retail value then a zero $ charge to the folio ?

I think that was just a factor of the back end updates that have to happen when they make these changes. That's what my app was showing as well as recently as Saturday but once my app updated it now shows the old Premier package perks again, including unlimited casual dining.

Some people have said to uninstall and reinstall the app and that fixes it too.

Yes, I do seem to recall that it would cost $10 per day extra for that, but it is a bit tricky as Alfredo's was not part of any package before it became a paid venue. It was free to everyone.  So technically, there was no change to the package since that perk wasn't already a part of it.   But this time around, there is no corresponding change along those lines.  "More" is offered, but nothing is being taken away.

yes and no as it wasn't originally a "perk" because it was included for everyone. So now that it was "included" in the package (only two per voyage versus unlimited originally), it's like having a negative "perk."

Does anybody know if those on the old premium package can also book their two specialty dining reservations in advance without being charged on their credit card?

I have been able to. But tbf that was a few days prior to the new Premier announcement.

I originally booked Plus. Then on Friday the 9th I asked my CVP to upgrade me to Premier. He did that pretty quickly and I was then immediately able to book my two SD reservations without paying. Even before paying the amount I owed for the upgrade.

It did show a total for the reservations but also showed a $0 owed. So you do have to register a credit/debit card on the app and then you can make reservations without being charged. IF everything works the way it's supposed to. Which is a big if.

I do know from prior personal experience and from what others have recently posted that not everyone is having the same experience when booking SD. Sometimes it makes people pay, other times it doesn't. 🤷‍♀️

But you aren't getting anything less than you paid for if you decide not to upgrade.  As long as they aren't revoking any of the terms that you were expecting, what difference does it make?

Sadly, you aren't correct.  For our cruise to Hawaii this year in March.  We had purchased the plus package when we originally booked this cruise.  Before the cruise Princess changed the Plus package (I think they adjusted the casual dining).  Sadly shortly after we got off that cruise, the changed again (I also think in regards to the casual dining).  I understand the OPs concerns.  Sadly, this can happen, and the cruise line get's to make that choice.

DW don't cruise often, but when we do we cruise Princess.  We really enjoy the product.  We often try to take advantage of things so that we don't have to worry about anything on our cruise.

That's why on our next cruise we are trying the Premiere package.

Everyone is different on what they want for their experience, while the cruise line may change things, you still have choices.

Hoping for all the best for you and this dilemma.

Upgraded 3 bookings from plus to the new premier today.  I emailed my PVP and it was done within a half hour. No issues.

One of those sailing is already paid in full, and we have 6 specialty dining also already paid for.  I'm just leaving those pre-paid and will get refundable OBC once I'm on board.  PVP agreed with this approach.  Trying to cancel & rebook would risk losing the time slots I've reserved.  In theory I should be able to just re-grab my same time slot but I just don't trust Princess's technology to work that smoothly.

Looks like you can upgrade from Plus to Premier, but not from Premiere 1 to Premier 2 yet.  I was on chat and was told that I needed to wait until September 12th, which is when the rollout on the Regal will happen.

Sounds like fake news to me.

I just called my Princess CVP, and she was able to upgrade my premier from the old $80 to the new $90 plan for my cruise that embarks on September 1st.  She even was able to process the payment using my AARP gift cards.

Already have the conformation email that shows code 02 7011 Unlimited Specialty Dining Upgrade.

I guess it's being "rolled out"....it's being phased in.   For example our next cruise is on the Coral and is being phase in on Oct 17th which is the sail date of our cruise right after Dry Dock.....at least this is what I heard on Youtube.

I was able to book the Crown Grill with no charge.  Tried to book Sabatinis and it charged me.  I cancelled.  Tried to do a chat.  That was not very helpful.  I will try to call

The announcement listed the dates of each ship that the new premier would first be available.  My upcoming cruise happened to the initial cruise for it on the Majestic, and it has many specialty dining times still available, so I may never leave Rudi's.  The only fly in the ointment is that the app is still charging me for the additional specialty reservations, but I'll just get a refund on board and cash it out at the casino cage.

I think that the experienced CVPs just know more than most of the folks manning the chat and phone.

I've seen several people say that their CVP or TA finally got them upgraded yesterday or today but people who use the chat or call are still getting a variety of inaccurate and unhelpful answers. And before yesterday nobody was having any luck.

Where did you do the upgrade?  On the app?  Online Cruise Personalizer?  Phone Call? Chat?  Also, when is your cruise and what ship?

On chat I was told I can't book until 9/16 when rolled out for the Regal.

I just upgraded to the new premier plus package and am on chat line now to request verification so that I can receive the “Double the Love” cruise point special which is in effect between Aug 1 through December 1. I will let you know what happens.

I was told that as well on 3 occasions. On my 4th try I was upgraded ( from "old" premier to "new" premier) . I received a credit card bill for $188 CAD, and immediately my reservation allowed me to book specialty restaurants each night for zero charge. Its unfortunate that the folks who have to actually interface with clients like us are not armed with the full facts. The answers i received on the first three attempts were as you described.... "you need to wait until Aug 31st"( the date Enchanted rolls out). On my fourth attempt ( on the chat line), the agent said, "no problem, let me take care of that for you". 10 min later I was on my way, and this was Monday Aug 19th.  My advice, keep trying, there are agents who do know what to do. It took me 4 attempts but finally found someone who knew how to do it. I'm glad I didn't wait  until the 31st as some of the restaurant reservations for my sailing ( Sept 21) are already filled up at ( what i would consider) prime time.

Best of luck, and please let us know how you make out

Oh, you have to sail between those dates to get the double points! Hope this helps someone!

Does this apply if you upgrade from the current premier to the new premier?
