Jim Cantore is in Davis Island right now.

Davis Island was already hit hard from Helene. My friend from Davis Island is already displaced for at least 6 months from his house after it flooded from Helene.

Then you should ask your friend to buckle up because it's going to be a rough ride... 🤢

Looks like the captain's trying to stay on the "clean" side of Milton (the side with less rain).  However, I suspect the sea will get a bit rough as the ship gets closer to Milton.

The deeper the purple, the higher the waves.

Hope you have a great cruise on the Serenade.  We get onboard when you disembark on Friday .... we haven't heard anything otherwise from RCCL, so assuming they are still planning on our 9 day cruise.  We are parking in a parking garage across the street, even though we live in Tampa we just want our car to be protected while we are away.  Anyone else on the same cruise as us??

I am on Serenade on Friday, 10/11.  Haven't heard anything from Royal yet.  Flying into Tampa on 10/10 and staying at Embassy Suites.  My flight hasn't been rescheduled yet.

Tampa Airport has announced it is closing tomorrow Oct 8 (Tues).

Milton's landfall is early AM Oct 10.

You may want to check your airline to see if they are operating.

I saw where they are closing the Tampa airport tomorrow.  I'm expecting a change to my flight.

Highly unlikely your flight will arrive in Tampa on Thursday.   😔

We live about 30 minutes south of Tampa. All of the spaghetti models for Milton now agree and have merged, and we are directly in the path. We did not evacuate because our elevation is too high to worry about storm surge, but we will have tremendous wind and rain. If there is no damage to our house but the power is off (very likely), the Serenade on the 11th would be a great place for an escape. It is sold out, but I think there are bound to be some cancellations.

I live in Lakewood Ranch so likely to be hit hard by this hurricane based on current projections. My house is as secure as I can make it (shutters up, all outdoor furniture inside). I boarded Celebrity Reflection this morning so will be out of harm’s way. Hopefully my house sustains minimal damage at most and my generator works without issue if my development loses power.

I lived in a condo in Bradenton when Ian hit in September 2022.  I woke up at 5:30 a.m. three days before landfall and saw that it was then projected to make landfall on Anna Maria Island, three miles from our condo. It was late to be deciding to evacuate at that point, but in figuring out our options, we thought of cruising. We found a ship with five cabins left leaving two days later and booked it. There was nothing we could do to prepare the condo;  no outdoor preparation, hurricane impact windows and doors, and on the fourth floor so flooding wasn’t an issue. It was also an opportunity to separate the two vehicles, to eliminate the possibility of losing both of them to flooding at the same time. We spent four days safe and comfortable on a ship, monitoring Ian via internet. The cruise was extended a day because Port Canaveral was closed when we were due to return. Ian hit Fort Myers Beach instead of Bradenton, and we returned to find that both cars were unharmed and we had missed a lengthy power outage.

I wish we could do the same thing this time, but we moved five months ago to a house thirty minutes from Tampa.  The house has a garage and a screened lanai to worry about, and we are not yet familiar with potential problems in very bad weather. We did have water from a very heavy rainfall seep under the garage door a couple of months ago, so we know we need to monitor that carefully. If we were still in the condo we would have booked a cruise by now.  The best we could do this time is to get on a ship on the day the port reopens.

I am glad you are safely out of Milton’s path and you can return to no or minimal damage to your home

The Port of Tampa will probably not be open on Friday, but ships scheduled for that day will more than likely sail on the day it reopens. I would prefer to be on one of those ships instead of living in a home without power in an area with recovery efforts underway.
