TS Von Posted Friday at 03:30 PM #1 Share Posted Friday at 03:30 PM Does anyone know what, if any of the Portland, ME lighthouses are visible from the ship upon arrival/departure from the port? I'd love to get photos of them if possible, from the ship.
Oakman58 Posted Saturday at 09:32 PM #2 Share Posted Saturday at 09:32 PM (edited) You will be able to see from the port side of the ship the Portland Head Light, the Spring Point Ledge lighthouse, and the lighthouse at Bug Light park as you cruise into Portland, ME. Here are my pics. Edited Saturday at 09:33 PM by Oakman58
TS Von Posted Saturday at 10:39 PM Author #3 Share Posted Saturday at 10:39 PM That's awesome. And these are beautiful too! Thanks for sharing. I was debating whether or not to do an excursion just for the photo ops.
chengkp75 Posted Sunday at 09:43 PM #4 Share Posted Sunday at 09:43 PM I've always recommended what Oakman did, and catch the Head Light from the sea, as it produces a far more unique photo than one from land, and gives you the experience of what a seafarer sees of the lights. Unless you can go up in the lighthouse, like you can at Nauset Light on Cape Cod (in fall you can watch the sun set from the walkway outside the lens room), lighthouses from land have little appeal to me.
TS Von Posted Sunday at 10:59 PM Author #5 Share Posted Sunday at 10:59 PM Everyone is different as I do enjoy exploring and photographing lighthouses from all perspectives. I do enjoy them from the water for sure and looking forward to seeing these (and others) in Canada.
Oakman58 Posted 14 hours ago #6 Share Posted 14 hours ago (edited) I think the most interesting lighthouse I saw on our NCL Breakaway cruise was the Rose Island Lighthouse in Newport RI. Edited 14 hours ago by Oakman58
chengkp75 Posted 13 hours ago #7 Share Posted 13 hours ago I like the Ram Island Ledge Light in Portland. I always wonder at how they built this sucker.

chengkp75 Posted 8 hours ago #10 Share Posted 8 hours ago Portland Head Light will be on the port side, and Ram Island Ledge will be on the starboard, you'll be about 1/3 mile offshore of Portland Head, and 1/2 mile off Ram Island Ledge, as the ship makes the turn into the channel towards Portland at the Head Light. Then, Cushing and Peaks Islands to starboard, about 300 yards to starboard, then Spring Point light to port while passing Fort Scammel and Fort Gorges to starboard. When you get to Bug Light, the ship will be maneuvering for final approach to the cruise terminal, not sure if they turn around or not, I think they do that on departure. While the pics from the ship, are great the ones from shore can be spectacular.
