No Children in Adult Areas!!!

Recommended Posts

Kareoke. The parents think their little darlings are just so precious...NOT!!

I just do not believe children belong in the adult lounges(bars) period. I really enjoy observing kareoke while cruising, but not with children involved.

This IS a comment I made on my comment card. Yes, I am cruising RCI again (my 5th) in October, but it will probably be my last. Give me HAL anytime with the older crowd.

 I will be very angry if there are kids in the Solarium when I am on vacation. I work with little people everday/all day M-F. I love working with little. When I am on vacation, I want adult time. Not Kiddie time. I will have NO PROBLEM telling a parent to ditch the kid. I paid just as much as they did for my cruise, so I would like to enjoy the amenities that are offered to ME.

To Bad RCI didn't have a person standing guard at the entrance of the Solarium to avoid many of these issues. If they did many cruisers wouldn't have anything to complain about.

I always bring kids with me and make them respect the rules, but you know what? Parents paid just as much for their kids to go on a cruise as you paid to cruise. If you can't stand little things like a couple kids in the Solarium, maybe you should go in the off season. I agree, rules should be enforced, but I have a lot bigger problem with ANY aged people being chair hogs in the pool area than a couple well well-behaved kids or teens in the solarium. It's everybody's vacation, five or ninty five.

So you're actually saying that you teach your kids to respect the rules, but in the same paragraph say it's okay to break them? How would you feel if random adults went into AO to play with the kids? After all, they paid to use the facilities.

No, thats not what I mean at all! I just meant it really doesnt bother me if there are a couple well behaved kids in an adult area, but it REALLY bugs me when you can't find a chair at all in the sun on a day at sea when nobody is actually in their chair. and hey, if the old people want to go in the Adventure Ocean, go ahead lol but I dont think they really have a desire to.

I truly believe I would have enjoyed my dinner more having been surrounded by adults and adult conversations instead of listening to what went on in the OA club.

With such unruly behavior as that, the entire family should've been kicked off the ship at the next port:rolleyes:

Why would you be so concerned with the conversations at other people's tables in the first place?

Perhaps you should've just tried minding your own business and enjoyed your meal.

The chair hog issue is about rules too. They are not allowed to chair hog. Kids are not allowed in the adult areas. You cannot wave one rule away and gripe about another without sounding at least a tad hypocritical.

As far as AO the ramifications of having adults in there seems to be lost. There is a perfectly good reason that adults are not allowed in there.

They made the solaruim an adults only area for a reason...for adults travelling without kids to have a place to be without kids. Or for those who just want to get away from their kids to have a place to get away. What is wrong with you and your kids going to a place that allows kids? There are far more places on the ships for kids and adults together than there are for adults only. Why don't you just respect the rules and your fellow travellers? Well behaved or not, I want an area without kids. And I shouldn't have to travel in the off season to accommodate you. And for you to suggest that we travel in the off season to accommodate you are your kids breaking the rules is ridiculous and very arrogant of you. That is why they have the solarium area for adults...so we can travel when we want without the worry. Yes, we all paid the same amount to cruise. But the amount you paid for your kids does not entitle them to the solarium. So respect the rules and your fellow passengers and keep your kids out!!!

Well it obviously does bother a lot of people or the adult only areas wouldn't exist!!

If everyone followed the rules, there wouldn't be a problem.

The Solarium is designated as an Adults Only area and that should be respected. I don't understand why people think the rules don't apply to them.

The problem with "well behaved children" is that many parents seem to think their children are well behaved, when they are actually not. Who is going to be the decision maker in determining who are the well behaved ones? I think it is easier to just follow the rules. It will teach the children about rules and respect and there will be no cranky passengers. There is a main pool area as well, I am sure the children could have just as much fun there.

As for the chair hogs, RCI has a policy regarding this as well. All you have to do is find a staff member and you can voice your concern. Just like I am allowed to voice my concern if there are children in the Adult Only areas.

Geez, people really get worked up about these topics  ! Why let a couple kids ruin your vacation. It does not bother me a bit, good to see young people having fun to. I do not think most of the parents know that ther chidren/child is in the solarium or they would not let them. It is a cruise, enjoy it!

That's exactly the point! Most parents don't watch their own kids or even know where they are or what they are doing. Maybe if more parents paid attention to what their kids are doing on a cruise, we wouldn't have this problem. I have no problem telling kids to get out of the adult areas, and finding a crew person to enforce the rules.

This is one of my pet peeves. We were on the AOS trying to get in one of the hot tubs in the Solarium, and there was a woman in the hot tub with a little girl about the age of 7 or 8 with a snorkel mask on-snorkeling in the hot tub =0.

That is just unbelievable!

I don't think it's "most parents", Clark. It's unfortunate that there's always some that break the rules and don't pay attention to what their children are doing, but I don't think it's fair to say "most parents".

That is exactly the problem - a couple of well-behaved kids from this family, a couple from that family, a couple from the other family - and soon you have a WHOLE LOT of well-behaved kids (or NOT - with a group like this, even the most well-behaved get a little out of control:rolleyes: ) pushing the adults out of the ADULT ONLY solarium!

I would even go so far as to say, I would like the adult only solarium to actually be ADULT ONLY (ie: 21 and over). I know this is really going to tee some people off, but oh well;) ..........

I couldn't have said it better and I totally agree with everything you said. That poster is one of the most hypocritical people I have ever encountered.

Agreed!

We'll be travelling next month on the Mariner with our two daughters; 16 and 12. I've been seriously looking forward to some "quiet time" in the solarium, with my book in one hand and a froo froo drink in the other.

I'd have no problem ratting out anyone (nicely) either. Rules are rules, whether your kids are well behaved or not.

Sorry my post made many of you angry. I realize that it really does bother people to have kids in an adult only area. I can see the annoyance and the principle of the thing. So, again, im sorry that my post made some of mad, I was just expressing my thought on the topic.

We were on the Explorer last week...........went to go in the Solarium pool and what do I see????? A BABY!! The parents were holding him(in the water) to cool off,I suppose........other passengers were smiling and ooohing and ahhhing............... Not this passenger!! I immediately found a pool deck guy and told him...........he went right over and told them nicely they had to take the baby out..........they left, along with their two other kids that were in the pool!! I shudder to think of what could have happened if they didnt take that kid out......YUCK!!

I totally agree. When we were on Brilliance last month, we went to Quest and there were several children 11-12-13 years old. The CD asked that all children leave, but the parents were sitting at the bar drinking away and the the kids just roamed the room. There are sooooooooooo many areas for kids on RCI and I think that's great, but I don't want kids in the adult areas.

I think so many people feel their kids are above the rules and perhaps they have been brought up that way themselves. I hate to think of the consequences that eventually will happen with that attitude. I guess a lot of it is the ME generation.

On the VOS 2004 we had a situation that was totally breaking the rules. DH and I were in the hot tube with several other adults when 2 girls (about 6 or 7) came over with snorkel masks on and no adult. They snorkeled in the hot tub. I told the girls (in my sweetest teacher voice) that they were too young to be in the hot tub. They told me that their mommy told them they could go in the "small pools because they couldn't stand in the big pools". They were so loud and annoying that all the adults got out of the tub. Guess what? Mommy was no where to be found. After about 1/2 they finally got out and the adults got back in. We asked a crew member to do something and they wouldn't.

First of all the rules at the hot tub are for the safety of the people using them. No small children should be allowed in a hot tub especially for over 1/2 an hour. It is unhealthy.

Please don't tell me to cruise when children are in school. I am a teacher and I have to cruise during peak family times. Believe me I would love to go other times since they are usually less expensive.

I love being around children (raised two of my own) but rules are rules they are made to protect us and enhance the enjoyment of all. They were not made to be broken.

I am a teacher and love kids; have two of my own.

I have yet to go on my first cruise, but is seems to me that part of the beauty of cruising is that there are so many choices. If I'm going with the family, I have a choice of the dining room or the buffet, or even room service. I can set my kids up with the cruise programs.

If I am an adult who wants time with other adults, I can reserve a spot at Chops or Portofinos--and pay extra. I can go to the casino or the solarium.

It seems to me that there are so many options to get an experience that would please so many different types of vacationers if everyone would honor the suggested ages.

I'll be going with my sister while our kids are at camp. I need a little time away from kids....so I can be a better parent and a better teacher.
