"Houston We Have a Problem" in NYC. Need advice from anyone who might have a suggestion. The New England/Canada cruise I am going on in the near future ends in NYC. Debarkation in NYC will be in the morning as most cruises are. My group plans to site see in NYC before going to LaGuardia for our return flight home. With the idea of seeing as much as possible we booked an evening flight. Our plan was to either store or check our luggage at LaGuardia and then head out into the city rather than dragging it all over town. I have recently found out, and I don't know why I was surprised, that we can not check our luggage early at the airport, nor can we put it in lockers there. I am at a complete loss as to what the 8 of us can do with all our luggage during the day. Anyone have a suggestion?

Im afraid you are going to have a problem unless the cruiseline may be able to hold it for you. Since 9-11 all "luggage lockers" in airports, trainstations, etc have all been torn down or closed. Have you checked with Carnival? I have not been to the pier there (YET) so I dont know what kind of facilities they have. You can also call the NYPST for some advice. Their number is 212-246-5450.

Sorry I couldnt be of any more help!

We have a similar challenge. I had a strange and logistically crazy idea: could one drive to the airport and check your luggage in the morning at curbside? Then, drive off for some hours of touring...

Big first question: how long before a flight will an airline be willing to accept luggage? If the limit is four hours or less, this idea is no help...

Billy,

We are going the day before. Just decided to do that on May 30th, so I searched the web for days and was just about to give up when I came across a link. Was looking for personal or private tour. One that would pick us up at the airport the morning we fly in and take us on a tour to hit the hightlights of New York.

We were concerned with what to due with our luggage all day, cause we couldn't check in the hotel until 3pm. So thought if we could find a tour then the luggage would be in the trunk all day during the tour.

We'll I got their 800# and called and the guy was really nice.

If you would like the information please feel free to email me. I feel for New York it is a very reasonable price for pick up and 4 hour tour.

Maybe they could pick you guys up at the pier and do the tour and then drop you at the airport after the tour.

Just a side note to that - you do not need to wait until your check in time to hand over your luggage to the hotel. If you have reservations, they will hold it for your until its time to check in, free of charge. I do this all the time and have never had a problem.

You are underestimating your time and no- to even consider heading to the airport and drop off bags then return to Manhatten would run you at least $70. Best would be the escorted NYC tour. Or Perhaps look at Grayline, I believe they have a baggage storage?? You will need to leave AT LEAST 2 1/2 hours before your flight from Manhatten, so don't over estimate your touring time, even more if you are transferring between 4-6pm.

Many cruises have ship to airport luggage handling. The cost is minimal compared to the aggravation if having to carry luggage. Also, if you're leaving from LaGuardia you must be there no less than 2 hours prior to departure. It can be a zoo there. You might be able to hire a car service to take your luggage and deliver it to the airport. Good luck sorry I can't be more help. Another thought, if you have a local chain hotel that is in midtown Manhattan, you might go in to your local hotel and offer their conceirge a hefty sum to arrange for you to leave your luggage at one of thei NYC locations. I've known $$$ to work wonders. He/ She might offer to " share " some$ with the ny concierge.

Will you tell us how you stumbled upon this twelve year old thread? For science.
