I figured if ever there were ever a good chance for it, it would be now since we'll be on our honeymoon and our TA made a note of it in our reservation. Is it a pipedream? Cruiselines handle upgrades differently. Be forewarned. A guaranty means that the cruiseline can put you anywhere within the category you book or any higher category. There are problem cabins in almost every category. This thread is about the rotten cabins on Celebrity ships. For the purpose of our discussion let's say that no one books the worst of these "dog" cabins. Guess where they look to fill them? The guarantees, of course. We have booked guarantees on several cruises. We never had a "dog" cabin but we had several less than desirable. On a Holland America cruise we moved from inside to outside but it was a completely obstructed view blocked by the infrastructure with no view to the water. Furthermore, it had the promenade deck outside so everyone walked past the window. It was close to the worst room we ever had on a cruise. By the way, we have never been upgraded to a truly great room. We have decided the risk of being assigned a crappy room by booking a guarantee is simply not worth it. summitcruiser Posted July 15, 2006 #55 Share Posted July 15, 2006 Wow! All this chat about rooms is a bit nerve racking! We are cruising on Celebrity, the Summit Aug. 19 - Alaska. Our room is Penthouse Deck, Sky Suite Stateroom #6122. Does anyone have any information about this room? When you say a cabin is aft, is that on the very back of the ship or on the side toward the back? Chris

Rare hcat Posted July 16, 2006 #59 Share Posted July 16, 2006 Summit 8102 is next to a suite..you get a small pie shaped balcony--sized for 1 person only & the suite windows are right there looking at you-- Friends have had two bad cabins elsewhere on the same ship on 2 diff trips First one, there was an awful noise like a banging that no one could resolve--half way through the trip they were upgraded to a cc cabin to make up for lack of sleep. Next they had an interior one that suffered from a terrible whoosing noise--it was suspected it was next to a drain from the T pool. They were moved that time as well--I'll ask them to post the cabin #s... In general our fav. choices are usually midships bwteen two residential decks

gracecarmo Posted July 16, 2006 #62 Share Posted July 16, 2006 I read where someone had the "service door" across from their cabin and heard the door open and shut quite frequently. Does anyone know where these doors are located? In looking at the ship diagram there is no indication as to location. We have cabin 7175 booked and wonder how this cabin is? CelebrityMan Posted July 16, 2006 #63 Share Posted July 16, 2006 Hi Grace, While we have not been in that particular stateroom, I don't think you should have a problem there. Looking at the deck plans you are actually opposite the aft stairtower. Service doors should be farther aft along the passageway. And being "around the corner" two staterooms from the stairtower lobby, you should have less passenger noise, too. See you in a few weeks!!! gracecarmo Posted July 16, 2006 #64 Share Posted July 16, 2006 Hi Cal....thanks for the info. This cabin is for our Panama Canal trip, not the Connie TA. Now, when you say "around the corner", do you mean that the door may be opposite the aft cabins? Did you see where many cabins are now available for the TA? cechase Posted July 16, 2006 #65 Share Posted July 16, 2006 We have had some noise issues in the Royal Suites which we have had on Galaxy and Mercury. With one exception, the noise issues have been minor. Four of our Royal Suites have been the furtherest RS forward on both port and starboard. The noise was restricted to the daytime, from people moving lounges, running and or walking very heavily on the pool deck (11) directly over the Royal Suites. Generally, it was minor noise, except for the occasional "thump" which would get your attention. Strangely, enough, we did not have this issue on our two cruises on Century! The exception was RS1054 on Mercury [there is no RS1054 on Century, since it has only 8 Royal Suites instead of the 10 on Mercury and Galaxy.] RS1054 is located beneath the hotdog-hamburger facility on deck 11. My DW was ill with a high fever and her back was out, and in the middle of the night it sounded like they were rolling bowling balls over the deck. We figured that they were cleaning this area and reprovisioning it at night. Our butler and Guest Relations made every effort to address the situation, and as a result the noise at night diminished, but did not go entirely away. Don't get us wrong - all of our accomodations were absolutely great, and the cruises were marvelous. Just wanted to forewarn others that there can be some noise issues with these cabins. For us, we have switched to M class vessels where deck 6 with Royal Suites is sandwiched between two decks with cabins.
Mr. Spock Posted July 20, 2006 #66 Share Posted July 20, 2006 We just booked Constellation cabin 9126 (Sky deck, about 3 cabins forward of aft elevator) for Oct 16 to New England and Canada. This is Concierge Class, which is almost sold out, so not much to choose from. Can anyone provide specific info concerning negatives that might be a concern? Thanks. Ships R Great Posted July 21, 2006 #67 Share Posted July 21, 2006 On the deck plans, it looks like 7032 is really large. I know deck plans are not always accurate. Is itreally this large? We asked for a handicap cabin due to DH problems walking. They gave us this one. Has anyone ever been there before?
gracecarmo Posted July 21, 2006 #68 Share Posted July 21, 2006 I had a very forward cabin on one of the M class ships, and found that there could be considerable walking involved. It is a long way from the central elevator, where most of the time you may be using. The forward elevators are not too far, but we found we were mostly using the center elevators. If your husband has trouble walking, possibly a cabin near the elevator would be best. However, the cabin does look rather large, and I assume it would be the type to accomodate a wheelchair. SF Posted July 21, 2006 #69 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Constellation cabin 8146..... Are there any problems with this cabin? People have posted that at the bow of the ship cabin's 8041 and 8043 are blocked by the window washing machine I'm wondering since our cabin jets out like 8041/8043 but we are at the aft would window washing equipment be there too? scones34c Posted July 21, 2006 #70 Share Posted July 21, 2006 I read earlier that any outside staterooms on floor 6 will have a fantastic view of the lifeboats. My fiance and I are booked on the Millie in cabin 6112. It's a 2C stateroom with a veranda. I think it's located next to "Notes." Anyone with any information will get a free hug if I ever meet you! Thanks so much! -Liz
gracecarmo Posted July 21, 2006 #71 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Liz: I don't think you will have anything to complain about. That is a good cabin. I looked at that cabin location once, and would take it. Nice location mid ship, close, but not too close to central elevators. Don't worry about the life boats. stanjj111 Posted July 22, 2006 #72 Share Posted July 22, 2006 We were in 8111 on the Connie. For part of the trip the window washers were in front of our room. Other times it was not. So I quess that it is a crap shoot.

LuLaLuvlee Posted July 23, 2006 #74 Share Posted July 23, 2006 We were on Millenium in April 06 and had CC cabin 8040. Lovely staff for this cabin but a window washer device was just on the right side of the balcony. It didn't block you from a straight out view but that side view was def spoiled.
