Can anyone help. We have one day and night post cruise disembarking in FLL flying home from Miami. Would really like to visit Key West but having problems getting a reasonably priced hotel for one night. Does anybody know of a good hotel half way. Many thanks from over the pond Cec and Kim:)

Hi,:) this answer might sound silly...and I don't mean it to be but

when you say 1/2 way between Ft. Lauderdale and The Keys? There

is Miami....and Homestead...but there is only one way into the Keys

and one way back....one LONG, LONG BRIDGE.

So, not sure what area you are referring to.......you can stay

in Key Largo......or go all the way to Key West.

Islemorada is along the way as well....you might want to do

a google search and see what pops up.

Type in Florida Keys and see what you get.

Hope this helps a bit.:)

If you spend all the time driving from FLL to Key West - stay there overnight and see the place for the small time that you have. You must be going in the winter as the prices are high to you. Miami is not going to be much better for a decent place.

KeyWest has a tourist bureau that must have a website with hotel suggestions. Spend a little extra and enjoy your visit.

I love Islamorada and spend a lot of time fishing there.

Great hotels:

Cheeca Lodge

The Moorings

Casa Morada

Less Expensive and still great:

Pines and Palms

Breezy Palms

Hampton Inn (don't be fooled by the name, it is a resort).

What time of year will you be visiting? Christmas to the end of April is peak season and all rooms will be over $300.

The Hampton in Islamorada is very nice. Lazy Daze restaurant is great. There were a couple other nice restaurants no longer there, thanks to Wilma.

Actually there are, I believe, 43 bridges to Key West:D 7 Mile bridge is the longest, it's 7 miles long:)

I agree with the suggestion to stay there but remember:

Generally speaking it's about 3 hours from Key West to Miami, but if you stay in KW allow for more time to be at the airport - most of the way it's two lanes, and with all those bridges if there are traffic issues or an accident things can easily back up for 1-2 hours. We have a 3:00PM flight out of Miami coming up, and we'll plan on leaving KW at 9:00AM at the latest just to be sure.
