Copenhagen Sites To See

Recommended Posts

We will be staying at the Marriott Hotel in Copenhagen for three nights prior to boarding our cruise ship in late August.

Would appreciate thoughts on places that we should see while we are in Copenhagen. If you could note which of these are in walking distance of the Hotel (for us walking distance is say with 45 minutes from the Hotel) that would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

We made a nice day trip by taking the train from the Central Coenhagen station to visit Helsignor. When we arrived we walked over to the castle along the waterfront and spent a few hours touring the castle. We then had a nice lunch at the cafe right on the castle grounds before our return trip to Copenhagen. The train was very clean, and on time. Once we returned we picked up our luggage, hopped a cab and arrived at the cruise ship by 4pm. If you love to shop, the Stroget is very close to your hotel as is the Nyhaven where you can take a nice boat tour round the city, our visitited the Mermaid statue. Copenhagen is a great city to walk in, you may want to pick up Rick Steve's guide to Copenhagen. His walking tours are very well mapped for you. Have a great time, we would love to return to Denmark someday and spend more time than we had last year.

We also stayed at the Marriott pre-cruise last summer and enjoyed the river views. Don't know what the price difference is now, but we stayed on their club floor and thought it worthwhile. While the location was a little out of the way, if you don't mind walking it's not bad and we really liked the hotel. If you've never been to Copenhagen, you might want to start with a city tour. They leave right from the Marriott, last about 3 hours and provide a good overview of the city. Then you can go back to the things that especially interest you. We enjoyed a boat ride along the canals. As we were only there for a couple of days we did not leave the city. We toured Christiansborg (sp?) Castle (did a self-guided tour), and went down to see the Royal Jewels. The city tour that I mentioned takes you by Amalienborg Castle where we saw the changing of the guard, little mermaid statue and a couple of other points of interest. We went to Tivoli late in the day and enjoyed dinner and a few evening hours there. It's fairly close to the hotel, and depending on when you are there they may have an interesting show or concert.

You can get just about anywhere in the city pretty easily from the hotel. Sometimes we would walk one direction and taxi the other, depending on mood, time of day, how tired we were, etc...The restaurant in the hotel was also pretty good if you don't always feel like going out. I think I've seen you on the Crystal Board - is that what you're sailing on from Copenhagen? We sailed the Symphony from there last summer - it was a great cruise!

Thank you all for the valuable input.

42trvl. You are right that I post a good deal on the Crystal board as we have cruised them several times and we have additional cruises planned with them. This particular cruise will be on Seabourn. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the cruise. We are greatly looking forward to it. Thank you for the suggestions that you made on places that you saw when in Copenhagen.

We leave this Sunday for Copenhagen and are also staying at the Marriott. So Tivoli isn't that far from the Hotel? How long of a walk is the Mermaid, castle, and stroget from the Marriott? We are flying in a day early for our cruise on the Star Princess.

We didn't have enough time to walk to the Little Mermaid as we had to get to our ship by 1PM but you can take the Copenhagen Metro from the train station(which is a 10 minute walk from the Marriott) to Osterport station..then walk through the park to the Little Mermaid(another 10 minute walk)..Tivoli is practically across the road from the train station and the Stroget is just behind Tivoli. Enjoy the midnight sun!

I can recommend the canal tour as a way to get your bearings in COP and see a lot while seated. The guide will ask how many languages are spoken and then proceed to do the commentary in four or five if required--a show in itself! The boats leave from the Hans Andersen plaza on the Stroget.

If you are an art or architecture buff, there is a gorgeous art museum Louisiana, in the suburbs that's worth a trip. Beautiful setting and nice collection of mostly modern art. Google it.

ATTN Seabourn sailors: Some documents were sent with incorrect pier information for Copenhagen. The correct location is Nordre Toldbod Pier 177.

This is true, check with Seabourn if you have a doubt.
