Merion_Mom Posted October 14, 2006 #105 Share Posted October 14, 2006 This will be my first cruise, and, call me naive, but what's the duct tape for?Anything and everything. Did the airline mangle your suitcase, but you need it to get home again? Repair it with duct tape. Oops! Your hem just fell down. Fix it with duct tape. Closet door a little loose, and bangs back and forth at night as the ship moves, while you are trying to sleep? Keep it closed with duct tape. Kids talking back? Well, you get the idea. :D

suzanne217 Posted November 3, 2007 #115 Share Posted November 3, 2007 After my experience on the Carnival Liberty in November 2006 on the TA cruise, I will never leave home without some 1. powdered jello 2. powdered broth 3. sleeve of saltine crackers. The dreaded NORO outbreak affected almost 2000 of the crew and guests. You could not get any of those items from the room service staff without first visiting the infirmary - where dozens of SICK people were congregated! Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

bobnsandi Posted November 3, 2007 #117 Share Posted November 3, 2007 Anything and everything. Did the airline mangle your suitcase, but you need it to get home again? Repair it with duct tape. etc,etc :D We will take painter's "blue" tape with us, too. Duckie tape seems to leave a really sticky residue, which can harm some surfaces in the cabin. Blue tape is supposed to pull away without damage. Note, however, that it does cost more than Duckie tape. For rattling doors, we found that stiff card stock works well, folding as many times as you need for a shim. Easy to get the card stock, as many handouts and advertisements onboard the ship are printed on thin cardboard. We used masking tape to secure the shims, less residue and easier to work with.
