More Refunds from the 7/11 Affair!

My girlfriend just recieved a letter from Princess this morning telling her that all of the onboard charges that we had been previously charged for are now being refunded. This only includes food & beverage purchases, gratuities and shore excursions. No refunds from the casino, boutiques or art auctions. Fair enough!

In addition, she'll be recieving a 25% cruise credit to be used by Dec 31, 2007!

Anyone else get this letter??

We've always said that Princess are smart business people....very adept at pleasing by far the vast majority of their clientele...resulting in high percentages of repeating cruisers. Now if they would just get us some lemonade. :D

Now, I fell Princess is using it's PR on this one. Great move Princess, you did the right thing. Money speaks louder than words to most people and it might keep these law suits down to a minimum if they have already offered and given very good compensation for the problems.

My family was on the 7/11 sailing but we have not received this letter. Was your letter addressed from Princess or Carnival Corp? We have been charged with our onboard expenses and our full cruise fare has already been credited back to my Amex card. Will watch for the letter.

If Princess is in fact doing this, then I agree they are going above and beyond the call of duty. For those of us on the cruise, afterall we did incur the charges so I truly believe this is goodwill on the part of Carnival Corp aka Princess.

That is awesome, good for Princess. Since they are owned by Carnival, I second PLEASE bring on the lemonade! We have sailed with Priness many times and have been iced teed to death. Two sailings on Carnival (Legend and Valor) and the best lemonade we ever had (with lemon slices available). Come on Carnival Corp. let us have lemonade on Princess. We will bring a twelve pack of Country Time for our 9/30 cruise on Crown.

Woo hoo! Now to pick the next cruise! (Wish I drank, dang, no bar bill!)

I did expect to pay the excursions, maybe even the gratuities. I thought getting the base cruise fare was a good deal. But then again, my family was lucky. I didn't even see an injured person until dinner, but then I ran down to deck 7 so fast to find my kids, and then we stayed there, it was pretty deserted. When they said to clear the decks, we went to our room and watched CNN.

PS: I added some more photos.

The letter is from Princess not Carnival Corp. It's dated July 25, 2006. The 25% credit is good for bookings made by 12/31/07. I suppose that means we can cruise in '08 or maybe '09 if the schedule is out by then using the credit.

This seems to be an overly generous move by Princess..but I'm not complaining. We were fortunate in that we weren't hurt or have any of our stuff damaged in the heel.

That is more than generous. For those of us on the Star we still had to pay all the expenses that we incurred while on board. I wonder if they're going to rethink that and go back and reimburse us.

I wonder if it was because the Crown incident was human error on the part of a crew member and the Star incident was probably caused by a passenger.

Nicegirl, it seems that you received the letter as well as the OP. Like you, me and my family were not hurt, again this is very generous on the part of Princess.

I am hearing different things as well. I was on the 7/11 sailing. Any way you can post the letter, or email it to me? jd7984@gmail.com

Also, do you know if they are doing anything on top of that for the passengers that were injured? (Not that I'm expecting it because Princess is being VERY generous--it's just a question because my mother broke her ankle during the list).

Mail me too please (nancy@liedel.org) cause my mailbox is empty and that would be nice. I can buy a lot of Ambian with that (kidding folks).

Dang. If anyone else gets this letter please let me know.

I got the letter. It is only for passengers who sustained injuries and were treated on the ship or at the hospital.

See the thread CORRECTION regarding more refunds from the 7/11 incident to read the letter.

Just received a letter. I must Princess has done a great job here for those on the ship. I think they have done a great job to compensate us. Let me get this straight from peolpe who received this letter. Now we are also getting 25% off another cruise if booked within the next year and a half? This is a great deal and will take them up on that offer.

Is it 25% off the total cruise price or a 25% credit of the fare you paid for your Crown sailing?

We still had to pay our onboard account for the Star even though I was injured and lost everything. It would have been nice if Princess had refunded us but they didn't.

25% off of what you paid for the 7/11 sailing.

I am appalled that you still had to pay. I would call Princess immediately. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

While I understand what you are saying, I have to disagree with you. There's nothing in the letter that indicates you have to prove you were injured to receive the credit. I think they also mean an injury in an emotional way since they apologize for the cruise not being the relaxing vacation everyone had planned. Also, how would they define an injury? What if you were one of the many who incurred minor cuts but did not require emergency attention? I doubt they have a list of those passengers.

Of course, I based all that on the letter. Maybe you spoke to someone from Princess today who told you differently.

nicegirl05, at first I was going to reply to you that you read the correction wrong and the additional was ONLY for INJURED passengers. Having read the correction several times now, I'm coming around to your thinking too.

But it really is in the interpretation. It will be interesting to hear about interactions with Princessin this regards in the coming weeks.

I agree too, if anyone does find out more could they please keep us advised.
