What happened to the chocolates?

I can do without the chocolates and Carnival can exchange them for Sushi. Sushi on my pillow before bedtime with just a touch of wasabi and a few slices of ginger would be heaven!!! MMMMmmmm.............comment card suggestion. :p ;) :D

MMMMmmmm. I'm with you on that! It's so popular on Paradise (California) that they have to close the line on formal nights because it snakes back through the portrait stations!

I think room amenities should include chopsticks and light soy sauce. And while it might smell a bit skanky, I bet the fish oil would be great for the hair. I'd rather eat the sushi though, thankyouverymuch.

That's funny! There have been cruises where we had to search for the Sushi stand and then we'd eat right there so that no one would see us walking around with it and ask, "Where'd you get that?". Of course, the sushi doesn't stay secret for long. :)

Uh, wouldn't your hair smell a little odd the next morning?:D :D

HHAHHAHAHA!

Reminds me of a story one of Galveston's Finest told me after his first cruise...

"The Guys" went on a cruise out of Galveston to celebrate one of the officer's impending wedding. With 4 big policemen to a room, quarters were tight. One guy stayed in the casino later than the others...enjoying the beverages and winning a bit. He stumbled alone back to the cabin in the wee hours.

The next morning the guys woke him yelling about the huge mess he had made. His bed (and body) were covered in a "brown substance"...

He had gotten into his lower bunk without first removing the chocolates, which promptly melted with his body heat.

(I've never NOT had chocolates on a Carnival ship!)

Hi to All.....

Just curious as we normally don't sail on Carnival. We were told that chocolates on the pillows were just about stopped. We were on the Carnival Liberty for a 12 day cruise and we got chocolates just once. How long has this tradition has been halted? I would have preferred the chocolates then the towel animals. Thanks for the help.

Dennis

We had chocolates on our pillows every night on the Spirit. I almost did not get any tho...hubster tried to hide them!~ ( So he could have his and MINE too!)

My DH and I neither one care much for chocolate, especially myself. We always have leftovers from our cruises. It will take us a year to eat the chocolates from an 8 day cruise. Maybe we should just sell them to all you chocaholics who don't get them on their pillows! We could pay for our DOD from selling our chocolates. Hmmmm.....

Hi to All.....

Let me expand on the chocolate shortage. I was not the only cruiser, there were others from our board that were on this cruise to verify. If this holds true, then I have to NEVER take Carnival again because being Dutch, chocolate is deeply woven in my DNA :)......Dennis

Did you ask your room steward why you weren't getting them? I would have. I like to bring them home for my friends who never get to cruise. If they leave the red hearts instead of the ones with the Carnival logo, I nicely ask if they'll leave the " carnival" ones in the future and once they know, they usually will leave me extras.

There has never been a night on a Carnival Cruise that I did not have chocolates on my pillow. When I sailed with my kids the cabin steward always left extra AND a plate with cookies as well.

Persoanlly, I could take or leave the chocolates...Don't get me wrong....I ADORE chocolate...but I am happier with the idea of someone simply making my bed, turning it down and taking care of the towel in the bathroom! The chocolates are a nice touch though and I might miss them if they were not there!

SO why was Carnival sooooo cheap on my cruise? I asked the cabin steward nicely and other guests had this problem. IS this part of the future for Carnival? Were we the "test" cruise to reduce or to kill the chocolate tradition?

Just got back from Fantasy last Thursday. I have maybe 20 pcs. of Carnival Chocolates. Maybe I'll sell them on e-bay (unless somebody buys them from me here at CC) :).

We had delicous chocolates waiting for us every night on the Inspiration!(8/5-10) One night, we came back to the room early and interrupted the steward during his "turn down". He left while we changed clothes....and gobbled the chocolates. Off we went to our various activities, and when we returned late that night, he had left us another batch! We weren't trying to outsmart him, but we loved the "double dose". Sorry if we ate your allotment!:o

I hope they still have them when I sail in January. If it was me, I would have checked my hubby for chocolate breath! :p

Those of you who identified American Airlines had it right. No "common urban legend" here. I was working for American (retired three years ago) and while it wasn't QUITE "over 20 years ago," it's close enough.

In the late 1980s, American's CEO Robert Crandall, the genius who came up with the hub-spoke system of airline routes and frequent flier miles, also instituted an employee reward system. Suggestions that saved the company money would be rewarded in any number of ways.

While most of the suggestions came from the onboard flight crews or the maintenance/cleaning staff, all work groups had an equal opportunity to participate. Each suggestion had to be carefully researched and documented, it couldn't just be "Hey! I have an idea!" (In fact, the program, still ongoing, is called "Ideas in AAction.")

The salad olives was not only a great success, but one which had PR "legs," and Mr. Crandall delighted in telling the story. I can't remember how much it saved (it was well over $40,000, and I think over $100,000 too) but it WAS during the period when all classes got full meals and it was on all salads. If I remember correctly, it was delineated down to the number of olive slices, like "eliminating the seven slices of olives on salads saved the company $125,000 in the first year."

Jana

Small clarification. It was 1987 and $40k for the olives. It also was Mike Gunn in part that came up with the frequent flyer program. IdeAAs in Action was a victim of 9/11, long gone however of course they still ask for ideas and I think the employees of American are more willing than ever to come up with them.

Are you sure someone you were traveling with wasn't stealing the chocolates? On our first cruise, it wasn't until almost the end when I discovered that we got choc's but my son was eating them before we ever saw them!!

Hi Marcys

I've been outed. I stoled the choc's from the service carts

We were on the Celebrations shortened 3 day cruise and we only had chocolate the first night. I didn't think it's such a big deal. For most it's just a novelty anyway. Those awesome deserts more then made up for the couple peices of chocolate that we didn't get.

We were just on the Ecstasy 8/21-26 and had chocolates and towel animals every night. Had heard they didn't do towel animals the first or last night so were pleasantly surprised. Actually, our last one wasn't an animal, it was a heart, really cute! Our steward even put two of the towel animals we had saved back on our bed when he made up our cabin on the last sea day and put our sunglasses on them. We also had our robes the last night, I had heard they take those the last night so that was nice too.
