cruisingbug Posted September 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Kinda trite I guess but there was a shop in St. George's, off the main square and upstairs, with nice local art on T-shirts. Every time I wear the shirt I think of our lovely vacation! The pic is of Horseshoe Beach, very relaxing.
Writeratsea Posted September 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Just curious what everyone buys when they go to Bermuda. My wife buys a pretty glass vase from the glass factory in the dockyard or St. George. I am looking at the vase as I type, it is a beautiful tourquoise, the same shade as the water. This year she wants either a yellow or red one.We bought a small glass container containing some pink sand, it was only $3. We also bought a rum cake from the rum cake factory and it was a great gift. We were asked to bring some Johnnie Walker Blue back this year for a friend. As I don't drink, it is nice to save someone else money from the duty free shops. We also bought a print by a local Bermuda artist at the St. George street festival for about 1/2 the store price. At the dockyard we bought a magnet map of Bermuda from a cart. And on the Majesty we bought a magnet of the Majesty to put on our refrigerator. All are nice reminders of Bermuda.:)
sideways2 Posted September 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I always make a stop at the Carole Holding studio in Hamilton and buy a china mug; my collection keeps growing! And I always buy one of those Christmas ornaments made from seashells at Smith's. That way, I can enjoy Bermuda all year round!

Yes, we bought a little blown glass frog at the Dockyard factory to remind us of the whistling frogs!
Surfgirl Posted September 5, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2006 The best thing I got was actually free. I took a small bottle full of pink sand home from Horseshoe Bay. I put it in a margarita glass with a seashell in my bathroom.
cruiserssandr Posted September 5, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 5, 2006 One of my favorite things we have brought home is a Bermuda angel ornament. She is made from banana leaves (for her dress), hazel nut (for her head) and dried grapefruit leaves (for the wings). I also have a large version that stands on my dresser. Bell Ringer Posted September 5, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2006 We have gotten Carol Holding prints that we later framed, a t shirt with a Carol Holding design- still wear it 4 years later....One evening in Hamilton, we heard that one of the very few Wedgewood potters would be in AS Cooper, so we went to watch him make bowls. There were very few people who observed his work, and we were fascinated! I just had to buy some wedgewood item-and chose a pair of earrings which I love to wear :) and also had him sign one of the longtail Christmas ornaments! On one of our trips, DH bought a pair of knee socks to wear with his burmudas....hmmmm, he will have to pack them for the next trip, because I don't believe he has worn them here at home:D. Also always buy a "Cat's Meow" for my collection. Oh, on our first trip, at the Dockyards there was a shop with lovely porcelain dolls. "The British School Marm" came home to live with us. Love to shop!

cruisingbug Posted September 6, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2006 Thank you for reminding me - Carol Holding's shop was the one in St. George's where we bought our T-shirts as well. Very nice artwork. As another poster mentioned, also anything with a longtail on it would be a good souvenir too.

Christopher Walker jewelry in Hamilton has nice silver charms of longtails, map of Bermuda etc. that are very nice. Pins are available if you prefer to the charms also. It is a nice shop. Intrepid Posted September 7, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 7, 2006 I found a shark oil barometer made from shark liver oil and mounted on Bermuda cedar. It is practical, unique and a sweet reminder of our trips! I found it at a tiny stand on St. David's.

SPARKLE10 Posted September 9, 2006 #23 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Hi: I bought a beautiful Christmas tree ornament, which had the Bermuda :D pink sand inside. It was my first cruise there and one I would certainly like to repeat when I can. We had a wonderful time. Happy Cruising.....Sparkle 10 PS It was also the first time I had seen the Staute of Liberty, as we sailed right past it; and also, out of all the cruises I've taken (40) it was the first time I ever won in the casino. It was a great cruise.

cruising grandma Posted September 11, 2006 #25 Share Posted September 11, 2006 Carole Holding also has some very nice gift sets with cutting boards and edible items. Try the lemon curd and the different flavored rum cakes. very moist! I also purchased a couple of beach t-shirts and some prints and note cards from her shop. She has two shops------one in Hamilton and one in St. Georges. Also, I bought my mom a rose pin and our grandson some metal and plastic sea creatures for the sand box in her shop. On parade(I forget what it's called) night, Carole is outside the shop in Hamilton signing prints. I bought myself a long tail bird charm from some other shop. I found our grandson a really cute polo from one of the nicer department stores. If you go to a small grocery shop in St. Georges, you might find some very good Bermuda honey. I had read on cc about the honey and finally found it, after checking several stores. But, the most unusual items we brought home from our last Bermuda cruise, was a backpack FULL of sea glass we picked up at the beaches. Pics and videos are always good! Try to see how many moongates you can find. Most of all------enjoy the beautiful beaches and nice residents of Bermuda!
