Just back from 9/2 Enchantment

Well, it was the 5 day cruise to Jamaica and Grand Cayman. We had an ocean view room on the 2nd deck. I travelled with my husband and 2 small children, and my dad, stepmom, and nephew. My stepmom joked that if we had been on the Titanic, we would have been in steerage and they would have had the gates shut on us. :p

The room was small but comfortable, and we had a great room steward named Rachel. She even washed my daughter's baby bottles and set them by the sink every day which is definitely above and beyond anything I expected. She got extra on the tip for that.

The ship is really beautiful and well laid out. Travelling with children, we didn't get to do as much as we hoped onboard and there are places we never even made it to. I'd love to sail her again with just me and my husband. I was also really surprised at how smooth embarkation and debarkation are. Port everglades really has that down to a fine art.

I thought the food was really good in both the dining room and the windjammer. I enjoyed just about everything I ate and really loved the pasta bar that they have for lunch in the dining room. I was not impressed with the Grand buffet but I did enjoy the buffet they had by the pool on the 3rd night. Service was excellent. I can't say enough great things about our waiter Ravi and our assistant waiter. Even the head waiter was awesome. On our previous carnival cruise I don't know if I ever saw the Head waiter other than the last night, but on this cruise the Head waiter was by our table every night to talk and joke with us.

We did bring 2 bottles of our favorite wine onboard with us in our checked luggage and didn't have a problem with getting it on. Even with the new rules, the cruise compass on the ship still has the corkage fee listed on it. Our waiter told us he would have to charge a corkage fee, but then never did for either bottle.

I enjoyed the casino and won $250 dollars on video poker. I love the $2 blackjack table with the large tv screen that has a computerized dealer. There was always a line of people waiting for a chance to play and I had some good luch with it too.

Both my son and my nephew loved the kids club. My son is 3 and my nephew is 12. We mainly only saw my nephew for meals and then he was gone again to Adventure Ocean. He made several friends the first day and really had a great time. There were quite a few kids of all ages onboard, but you didn't really notice them unless you were on the pool deck on a sea day.

That's all I can think of right now. Feel free to ask me any questions. :)

gribb - There's plenty of room for 2 people I think. Even with our 4 it really wasn't that bad.

cruiser4fun - No one in my group got seasick. In fact, my husband and I even stopped taking our bonine after the second day and felt better without it. I was in the elevator with one guy though who said his wife had been in the cabin sick for 2 days because of seasickness, so I think better safe than sorry and using bonine or the patch at least to start out with.

Lobster night was served on the 4th night after Grand Cayman. It was lobster tail w/ shrimp and was pretty good.

fpcruiser - I don't have any copies of the menus. Just what I can tell you from memory if you have any questions on it.

And here's the story about our trip to the ship the first day. I was on a 7 am Denver to Miami flight. Some of you probably remember the friend of the poster a month or so ago that was on this same flight and was delayed 2 hours and nearly missed her Miami cruise. I'm sorry, but her name escapes me right now. I posted then and was worried since we would be taking that same flight the day of our cruise.

Well, our flight actually was fine. We were delayed leaving Denver by about 30 minutes but still made it to Miami pretty much on time. There was some bad weather in Miami and this was where the problem came in. Shortly after landing and getting off the plane, it started pouring down rain with some lightning so they closed all of the ground control stuff and the ramp to get the baggage to the terminal. Which means our baggage was still sitting on the plane with no workers allowed to get it off or get it to us. This was about 1:30. We sat and sat along with a group of Carnival people from our flight that were trying to get to their ship in Miami. About 3pm I really started getting scared since we still had to get our luggage and get to the Ft Lauderdale port. Luckily we had hired a car and driver from floridalimo.com and he sat and waited with us the whole time for our luggage. Finally about 3:30 things opened back up and our baggage came through. We quickly grabbed it up and took off for the car. Our wonderful driver got us to the ship at 4:10 and we were quickly on board about 10 minutes later with enough time to drop stuff off and grab our life jackets for muster.

It was an extremely stressful time and I now will always fly in the day before. It's not worth the hassle or even the money we saved by flying into Miami that day instead of Ft Lauderdale.

Wow, I do remember the previous poster with the flight from Denver, and I do remember someone posting that they would be on the same flight soon. That must have been you! That was some story. Now you have one also, although not exactly the same, the end result is the same. You both say you'll never fly in the day of the cruise again. Good choice.

I, however, am doing just that next week. I'm going on the Enchantment for the 4 nighter. It was a last minute decision to go and I really don't have much vacation time left so I didn't want to take off another day from work. I'll be praying that I have no problems. I'm on the earliest flight of the day with several afterwards in case of delay.

I have a couple of questions? Was the dining room open for lunch on the day of embarkation? Also, were there many kids on the sailing? Finally, tell me more about the BJ table with the tv screen. I'm a BJ player and have never seen this. Is it a video game or an actual table?

Thanks for your help and glad you enjoyed your trip.

Just the Windjammer was open for lunch on embarkation day, although I wasn't there to enjoy it.

There were a lot of kids on the ship according to the captain when he was making his announcements before leaving port, but I really didn't notice it to be bad, but that may be because I was caught up in my own children.

And the BJ table is a bit of both. There are 5 chairs set up around a half circle like a regular table, but everything is computerized like a game and there's a big flat screen tv that shows a dealer that looks real but has computerized responses to how the cards play out. The computer dealers change out every so often and it's a mixture of men and women. You put your money in a slot and have various buttons to push like you would for a slot machine or something. What makes it fun is that you're still getting to sit and play with other people like at a regular table. They had 2 of these tables back to back, one $2 and one $5. The $2 one which I played was always crowded with people waiting for a turn to play.

Man, I wish I was back on the ship playing. It really was a lot of fun. Have a great cruise! :)

We called it "Pulling a Jamie" and now I remember you posting. I'm sorry this happened to you.

No new bedding yet and I believe the captain's name was Tor Olsen. He was great. I loved it when he was giving us the announcements before we got off the boat in Jamaica and told everybody to make sure they had a camera so that if they didn't make it back in time, they could get some great pics of the ship as it left port. ;)
