What "odd" things do you look forward to when cruising?

I also love the horn and the intercom chimes.

For the who are going/have been on Carnival, they've added a new part to their website, and it starts with the horn blowing! It also has some fun interactive things like sitting in the sauna, swimming with the dolphins and riding the waterslide. Definitely got me even more excited for the cruise that is 31 days out! So if you're looking for the horn sound for a little nostalgia or added excitement for an upcoming cruise, check it out! :D

Love the feeling of being pampered...room service morning coffee and croissant...opening the door to my balcony and watching the water slide by...anticipating all the wonderful things to come each day. Wish I could do this more than once a year.

Reading this thread made me feel normal. I work with people who have absolutely no interest in cruising. Some of them think I'm rich that's why I cruise so much. Truth is, I'm addicted to cruising and will scrimp and save to feed my habit

But, the odd things that make me feel I'm cruising:

Being on deck for the the sail away on the first day of the cruise. And every push off from the pier at every port we sail from. Love to watch them loosen the ropes and see the ship slowly move away from the pier.

On sea day, I love walking the decks just as the sun is coming up. To me the air sells different then. It smells like "I'm on the ocean". Then as soon as it gets light, I'll be the first one in the cafe and most times pouring the first cup of coffee. And just sitting there watch the ship come alive as the cafe and breakfast buffet starts to fill up. I'm cruising, man!

I love to have Eggs Benedict for breakfast in the dining room.

It reminds me of my grandpa. When I was a little girl him and my grandma would go cruising and talk about how amazing it was. I still remember sitting at the dinner table with them and listening to my grandpa talk about how no where else on earth can you eat eggs benedict every morning for breakfast.

A few years ago we sailed a back to back leaving Florida on July 5......a back to back with Dennis and Emily. We were on the Mariner of the Seas. We never saw rain and every morning we waited to hear the happy fun voice of our captain.....Good Morning, Good Morning ,Good Morning its "Captain Johnny"! He always had some funny one liner or at times even a dopey one liner to I guess help us forget about the hurricanes we were dancing around. I never had another fun captain like Johnny. Has anyone seen him , is he still around?

I enjoy looking down at the port as the ship pushes aside and begins pushing forward. Then, flowing out of the port into the open ocean and watching the lights dim into nothing (THEN passing other cruise ships the first night to see who looks like they're having the better time.)

DW enjoys seeing the "fashion crimes" everyone is committing.

my husband and i have been together for 2 years, married one...he asked me to marry him on a cruise and we had our honeymoon on another. For every cruise we take we have a muster drill photo - life vests and all. putting the vest on and posing for a quick pic means we're on our way :)

A lot of people have commented on sounds and smells. I have one to add; Our first (and only so far, we leave again in 11 days) cruise was two years ago and we had some suntan lotion with a coconut scent. Now EVERY time I smell a lotion or shampoo or whatever that has that scent I get a warm fuzzy feeling and I say "mmm, smells like a cruise". OK, I'm a dork, but that smell reminds me of the good times we had...we got married on that cruise on a beach in Grand Cayman, wow...good times!

For some reason, it is the sounds of the cruise I love most...I am generally a "visual" person, so don't know why I love...

The "bing bong" before the announcements...Our local drive-thru has just got a new bell that sounds JUST like it! Too funny!

The sound of the servers hawking "special drink!" when arriving on the Lido deck the first day.

The horn blasts...especially on port days when you KNOW they're calling to missing passengers!

The sound your ship card makes when they insert it when you leave/board the ship ("donk").

The sound of the casino! I love the noise of the slot machines and the people at the table games having fun!

The silence (and darkness if you have an inside) of the cabin at night.

The silence on the Lido deck in the very early morning while enjoying that first cup of coffee and writing my journal of the prior day's activities to post on Cruisecritic when we get back!

Great thread everyone! I've just read the whole thing, and it has added to my pre-cruise excitement!

As we walk around the ships we sometimes read all the signs we pass by, well, OK, I read each one. On a 2006 Disney Bahamas cruise one night after dinner we came across this sign.

It just struck us as funny — only the crew gets to escape — and its takes three signs to make sure everyone knows it!:)
