MercedMike Posted September 29, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2006 Many (many many) years ago we stopped in Curacao, and went to a riijstaffel restaurant which was recommended in Gourmet magazine. It was very local and not at all touristy. I bet by now there are some that cater to tourists. I hope somebody comes up with an answer as we will be going back to Curacao in Feb. newmexicoNita Posted September 30, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2006 I could ask the same question about ARuba. Our first trip to Aruba (1980) we ate at one: boy was it good, but seems now we don't see them anymore. NMnita

woody14h Posted October 15, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted October 15, 2006 An Indonesian rice table (in Dutch, rijsttafel) consists of rice accompanied by several, often spicy side dishes served buffet-style. Popular side dishes include egg rolls, sambals, satay, fish, fruit, vegetables, pickles, and nuts. It is a Dutch colonial adaptation of the Indonesian makan besar, and popular in both Indonesia and the Netherlands. The number of side dishes depends mainly on the number of guests; in a restaurant, as many as two dozen side dishes may be served. In many restaurants, the side dishes are brought to the guests' table, covering the table with the many small plates.
OVgirl Posted October 23, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2006 It would be great to find a restaurant serving rijstafel. Love to do it for lunch when we are in port.
Rent-A-Guide Posted October 27, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Unfortunately the family owned Indonesische rijsttafel closed a couple of months ago. There is a restaurant at the Waterfort Arches in Punda just behind the Van der Valk Plaza Hotel, the big tower downtown, I am unsure if it is a rijsttafel or Indian cuisine.
