Captains Table Invitation

Generally speaking, you don't ask for an invitation to dine with the Captain unless you have some very special ocassion on board. When we've dined with him, we shared a table with a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary and another couple who were on their 60th cruise with X. The Social Hostess is the one who picks passengers for the table. She generally selects those who are very frequent cruisers, those in the PH and RS category of cabin and as I said, those who are celebrating something special. As for others that she picks, it's just the luck of the draw. I've seen her standing at embarkation, scoping out the crowd to see if there are any likely candidates to select.

We were chosen at the Senior officers coctail party to attend.

 

However my freind/cohort who had not sailed X was asked before me...I am an elite member.

 

Its up to the crew based on personality, and compatibility...thats all. If you are a compassionate funloving respectful person you have a really good shot! especially if you are in a suite or veranda.

 

There is no formula, however I would smooze with the Captains club Manager...it might help..

 

And BTW it sure is fun, even if its the same dinner with comp'd cocktails. It makes you feel SO special there is no word for it.

 

Loved IT!!!

 

Hope to be invited again in the future!!!

On our last cruise we were invited to dine with the Staff Captain (and his wife) on the last formal night. The only thing we can think of is that we had filed a complaint about our butler with customer relations as we noted that at least one other couple at the table had filed a complaint too and that was the only thing they could think of that might have brought about an invitation. What ever it was that brought about the invitation - it was definitely a night to remember!!! We had an absolutely wonderful time!

Dave...When we checked in at the peir in Tampa two years (we had a CC cabin on the Horizon) the social hostess was behind the counter. She was very pleasant and kept making notes.

We were amazed that after dinner that evening and heading back to the cabin to freshen-up there was an invite for the next night (formal) to dine with the captian...it was very nice and he was a pleasure...

It turned out that all of us were from Tampa. Of coarse the captian was from Greece...:eek:

Actually, the title is the Captain's Club Host(ess). Their main duty at this juncture is deal with the CC people. Yes, they send out the invites from a list from HQ, usually Suite guests and Elite members of the Captain's Club. She has the option of filling in if someone backs out. But that invite will come short notice and it's being at the right place a the right time.

 

We had stopped down to talk with her one cruise and she was so happy to see us. Someone backed out and she needed a fill in, right place at the right time. We have been invited our last 5 cruises.

We have been invited to have dinner at the Captain's Club four times out of six cruises. On each we had a RS. On the first four cruises, it was the Social Hostess who was the contact.

 

On our cruise on Infinity in Sept., it was the Captain's Club Hostess who invited us to have dinner with the Chief Engineer and the Staff Engineer (both of whom were wonderful hosts), and our before dinner contact as well as after was with her.

 

While we think RS and PH passengers get some priority, on Infinity, good friends of ours who were in a SS were invited to the Captain's Table on the last formal night - the farewell night with lobster and baked alaska!

On my celebrity cruise a few months ago we were asked to eat with the Captain. We are Elite members. I became friendly with the Captains Club Hostess. She handles all of the onboard events for past passengers.

 

The first night she showed up at our regular table to introduce herself. And as I found out later, "scope us out". She called us that night and left an invite in our room asking if we wanted to eat at the Captains table.

 

Her name was Delia and she was very nice. We asked her how she picks people to eat with the Captain. Basically she must personally meet the guests first. She wants to assemble a nice table of compatable people. Obviously if she sees someone who may be a bit "unusual" she will pass them over. Generally she picks Elite members and guests in expensive suites first.

 

At the Captains table you basically get the same meal as the rest of the dining room but with free wine, flowers for the ladies, a special dessert, and a photo.

Charlie gets invited only because of Nedra, his

DW...don't even let him b/s you..THAT's why he gets

invited... :D

We were invited on our last Zenith cruise after 8 or so previous cruises with X. I just happened to strike up a conversation with e Captains Club Hostess and she just asked right then and there if we would be interested at having dinner at the Captains table. We said of course ! She said great, but you know you cannot bring your daughter. We said Great! (LOL)

 

It wound up being a dinner with the F & B manager, but he was a nice guy and at least now I can say I have eaten there.

We never heard this before - but Nedra and I and LuAnn and Ken all applauded John and Gail as they were escorted to the Captain's Table :D

Our son and beautiful, sexy DIL on their first cruise (for our 45th anniv.) were invited to the Captain's table. We had made friends with the Capt Club host and Future cruise director and I joked with them about it being OUR anniversary and our kids being invited. What's up with that? We were then invited to dine with the Hotel Director on the next formal night. Had a wonderful dinner with lovely people and really enjoyed the delightful Hotel Dir. Hope we get an invite again, but if not, we now will know what we're missing...wonderful fun.

Hi Sheila,

Being tall, blond and cute always helps when CC hostess is putting together the Captain's table for the junior officers. Lauren and I have been invited five of out ten Celebrity cruises, and I think I pretty much get to go along for the ride,:rolleyes: :)
