Black or Gold shoes with Red dress?

OK, I now have 5 formal dresses to choose from for the 3 formal nights on our upcoming cruise. 3 dresses are black, one is turquoise, and one is apple red. I have 2 pairs of black formal shoes and one pair of a muted gold. I will be bringing black & gold shoes--black for the black dresses (duh:p ) and gold for the turquoise dress (which has bands of gold & brown at the collar--otherwise I prefer silver with turq.) Anyway, which do you think match better the red dress? It's an apple red. Here's the dress--from Nordys

These are the shoes--I have in GOLD, which is not on the Nordy's website, even though I just ordered them--guess they sold out.

The black shoes are similar to this:

I have no idea what jewelry I'll be wearing yet.....

Black. Red & Gold are the colors for USC.:p

I actually think either would work, although I do prefer the style of the black shoes (probably because we do a lot of dancing & I need an ankle strap to keep the shoes on my fee). I love Caparros - they are one of the few high heeled shoes that I find comfortable!

My taste are different than the other two. I think black and red look good together, IF you have a sheer black shawl to pull it together. Either one would look fine however. If you're going to add lots of gold jewelry then maybe the gold would look good. Aren't I a lot of help? LOL

I very rarely wear gold jewelry--I prefer platinum, silver & white gold. I figured most people would like the gold shoes better, so I almost didn't ask (but still--good to know) but I don't know what jewelry to wear now.....I have some black jet jewelry I was planning to wear with the black dresses, though maybe pearls with one of them, and the chandelier earrings I have are silver based with clear crystals--don't think that would look great with the muted gold shoes....

Well, now that I have dresses picked out, and shoes-sort of--I can go back and figure out jewelry and shop some more if needed.

As for shawls, I have a black shawl with beaded fringe I'll bring for sure. Not sure what to do with the red dress--there's a little flounce in the back--will surely look weird with a shawl (or anything) over it, right?? I have a cream silk wrap my mom made me to go with my wedding dress--I could bring that, but it's very large and I don't know that it would look right with this dress either....

I only wear my shawl as I enter a room. As I sit to dinner or dance or whatever, I no longer use my shawl. Assuming there may be a breeze or lots of air conditioning, you may wish you had one and not worry if it covers the flounce. I think a shawl would be fine with that dress.

I like the idea that previous poster had about wearing gold shawl with black dress. That could look nice also. Esp with gold jewelry, but you said you don't wear gold jewelry.

I guess to sum it up...wear any of it together!!!! You will look great because any of the combinations suggested will be nice.:)

Hoyaheel,

I think gold shoes will have the most pizazz with your lovely dress.

I don't see association with football, baseball, soccer or nascar team colors, so I wouldn't worry about people thinking you're cheering for a particular team.

Hoya - That red dress is stunning! Love it. :)

I bought a beautiful red cocktail dress that I wore on the our cruise in Feb. I wore it with gorgeous silver sparkly heels - very high.

Got to wear the dress again to a wedding last month, but wore black ankle straps. Much better for dancing & not quite as dressy. Did a different purse & jewelry both times.

You're gonna have both pairs of shoes with you, right? I like choices, too. I'd wait until the night I was going to wear that red dress & make my decision then. One pair more comfy? One pair better for dancing or just going to the piano bar or casino? I know, not a lotta help, just more to think about.

and I was going to wear pearly whitesh shoes with a pearly whitesh shawl and silver jewelry. Is this ok?

As long as you're asking......

I don't think a red dress would look well with pearly white shoes. I think they're too light in color. With a pearly white shawl and silver jewelry, I'd go for a dressy metallic shoe in a silver tone.

Thanks for all the help! I think I'll plan to wear the gold, and pick jewelry based on that. Then if I change my mind on the cruise, at the last minute, well....Hopefully I'll have enough accessories to make something work:p
