We'll then you should all and pay me to cruise for you vicariously!]

You don't need us. I think your "office" provides a nice payout for you already. At least, it did on the Pacific Princess. Envy4u is getting a nice cruise on the Sapphire next year out of it. Did you decide if it was balcony or OS? LOL

Tony just replying from the 11/10 thread. You must be having too much fun, treadmill, cheese/wine pre dinner and the office after. Just keep it going until we board. Again, thank you for the info re the hotel Conrad Hilton and the filtered water. Ellen

Good morning and a late one at that for me from Katakalon, Greece.

I woke up later than my usual, however I didn't crawl into bed until 1:30am last night or this morning however you look at it.

It is currently 7:10am on thursday Nov 2nd and the ship has just been cleared by the Staff Captain 20 minutes ago for all to go ashore. Katakalon is home to the Greek Air Force base and was once the original site of the Olympic games and currently a small fisihing village. This is where it all started. You may travel to Olympia which takes approx. over 75 minutes in each direction. Because of the mild temperature, today would be a good day to do it. The forecasted weather for today is a high of 74F and sunny.

Ther is also a local winery very nearby the ship berth which takes approx. 15 minutes by taxi and has some excellent wines. The names escapes me now, but I have done this tour with Princess 3 years ago in Spring on the Star Princess with my Mother.

You really know you are on a Big Ship when you get up at the wrong time. They are dispatching all the tours currently and I went up to the Horzon Court to get my cup of "Princess Finest Syrup" and boy everyone and there dog was up and eating!

My big plans for today is to have lunch at one of the Restaurants on the boardwalk by the ships pier.

I will be going to the Donatella Dinning Room for a quick breakfast and back here to post some more specific information on Katakalon.

There was hardly any movement last night at all when I went to bed and no one was around to be seen on the ship....very quiet last night.

More to follow after I get some breaky in me from the Glorious Golden Princess in Katakalon, Greece.

I just got back from breakfast and had two paoched eggs on english muffins and coffee and freshly squeezed OJ. Didn't stay that long as I want to get to my cabin and change and go to the gym this morning and get it out of the way.

There's another F.O.D. gathering again today at 6:00pm in one of the bars...don't know if I will attend or not.

The weather here today is just perfect again...can't really complain. With all the tours dispatched, the ship is so quiet again...I love it when it's like this!

Going to go to lunch as I said earlier at one of the Restaurants on the boardwalk around 12 noon and walk around.

More to follow later this morning from the Golden Princess in Katakalon, Greece.

We'll I was just informed that the Most travelled luncheon willl not happen on thise cruise because "they" whoever is they feel that because we have only one sea day tey will instead hold a cocktail reception for us with an open bar and snackies. This is terrible as I have hit this once before and it was on the Regal Princess this March in South America.

The excuse they are giving is LAME! Javier and I were on the Grand this August doing a back 2 back cruise the Grand Mediterannean and then this same cruise doing the Greek Isles and it was held on the last sea day.

I don't have the heart to tell the Captain Circle hostess this information for sake of embarassing her but she should make up a better excuse. I am assuming that the next cruise to Egypt we have 3 or 4 sea days (can't remember) they should be holding a luncheon instead.

Although I am doing a no brainer by having lunch on the pier, here are some additonal things to do while in Katakolon;

Bouleterion; a building that housed the Altar of Zeus

Gymnasion; Large open practice field.

Heraion; Temple dedicated to Hera, the wife of Zeus.

Hippodrome; Horse and chariot races took place here.

House of Nero; Remains of the 1st century villa.

Prytaneion; complex where teh winners were feted, and weher the Olympic flame was burned.

Leonidaion; Guest house for important visitors and later the Residenc eof the Roman governor.

Metroon; located below the Nymphaion, this area originally had 16 bronze staues of Zeus.

Pelopeion; Shrine of the Pelops from appeox. 600 BC.

Palastra; Rooms used by the athletes for training, bathing and cleansing with oils.

South Hall; Building remains adjacent to the Bouleterion

Stadium; Home to most of the Olympic events which could hold 50 000 spectators.

Temple of Zeus; One of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

Treasuries, used to store valuables such as the equipment used in the games and rituals.

Or can simply have lunch by the boardwalk and stroll thru the shops like me today!

More to follow later when I come back from ashore aboard the Golden Princess in Katakolon, Greece.

Hi Tony,

I hope you don't mind an Aussie coming in on your reports.

I have enjoyed reading your e-mails ...from your last cruise on the Pacific Princess (my favourite), to the current Golden Princess.

Could you you please tell me...... with the most travelled luncheon... does the person with the most cruises or days whatever, win a prize ???

Here out of Oz whenever they have the cocktail reception (we don't have a luncheon), the person who has travelled the most wins a bottle of Moet.

(I have only won one).

also you are cruising with the nicest Captain...David Calabrese. we have cruised with him out of Sydney 4 times.

kindest regards, Lorraine.:) :)

PS hope you get to stay in the suite.

and keep sending the reports. we love reading them.

Hope you had a glorious lunch with the sun gently warming your shoulders, just taking in the sights and sounds. That's what is so nice about travelling in the Mediterranean at this time of year. It's not so terribly hot and most of the crowds have subsided. Enjoy it to the max!

Here on Princess, the pax that has the most number of days at sea gets teh Most Travelled Award which is a bottle of Mum's Champagne. Also to get invited to the Most Travelled Luncheon it goes by the total number of cruises.

Yes Lorraine, I agree David Calabrese is a very nice personable Captain within the fleet. He also lives in Sydney in case you didn't know.

Just got back from my lazy afternoon ashore in Katakolon. We (and another dealer from the Casino taht I know from previous ships) had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants on the marina. We ordered Tatziki, fried cheese with lemon, and I had a chicken gyros and a carafe of greek white wine and espresso.

The meal was fabulous and the setting couldn't of been more perfect. We disembarked at 12 noon and just got back shortly after 4:00pm.

We are about to set sail for Athens, Greece at 5:00pm and are expected to arrive in Athens tomorrow morning at 6:00am local time.

I didn't manage to really walk around Katakolon Village this time but I ahve done 5 times previously....we just got carried away with ourselves at lunch and the next we knew we had to be back onboard for her to conduct bingo.

Going to go to the gym very soon and get my one hour treadmill in late today and hopefully it's not packed and then go to dinner perhaps a little later tonight since we had an extended luncheon.

The F.O.D. is being held outside (Brrrr) for some reason at the Oasis Bar at 5:15pm. Perhaps they will supply some hot totties!

More to follow later today from the Golden Princess.

The sun was out as we were having our lunch and a nice gentle breeze...ahhh the Med!...I just love it!

Vicki, as I said before I just love being in the Med at this time of year for the weather and also less crowds. Even tomorrow in "the concrete jungle" they call Athens should be less crowded as well.

I am so looking forward to next year when Javier and I do a 48 day Med and Holy Land and Transatlantic cruise on the new Royal Princess from Nov 4th starting in Athens all the way to Fort Lauderdale.
