precruise stay in ft. lauderdale or miami?

We are flying into ft. lauderdale 2 days before we leave on a cruise from Miami. Would you recommend staying somewhere in ft. lauderdale or miami and where has someone stayed that they would recommend. Would love to be on the beach if possible.

Given a choice I would probably opt for a section of Southern Miami Beach known as South Beach. Its a very trendy art-deco neighborhood full of restaurants, night life, and a pretty decent beach. You can check in out on the internet.
