Shogun Live from The Sun

Shogun

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Well we made it , not the best flight, may be the worst hotel ever not even coffee details of where not to say latter.

The Sun is still on full bug alert, everything get washed down all the time, boarding was late to allow ship full clean etc.

Asked not to use public loos etc, even captain has asked everyone to wash and re wash hands etc,

Sea is a bit rough, wind at near gale but ship shows little movement.

Ship is in nice condition,

Odd items all other ships have a red and a blue hall way carpet, this ship does not so can not tell what ship of ship you are on.

Computers are very quite.

Good to see you made it, if the hotel was so bad you will probably enjoy and appreciate the cruise more:D :D

If you go past the spa can you see what the thermal spa cost is for couples?? They may also advertise/offer it in the patters.

Have fun, wash your hands and hope you have better weather than we are having:D

Post often too:D

My memory may well be faulty, but I think Caribe Deck, Sun Princess, had alternating color carpets, when we were on her, 5-04.

Replacement of carpet is an on-going issue, and they probably use whatever carpet they have aboard, rather than waiting for a new roll.

Signage aboard Princess ships is usually pretty good, so I think it a minor inconvenience when they don't have the alternating color carpets for the corridors.

Hi Folks,

Just a quick post before I get wiped down , hoovered, washed sprayed etc ship is in full deep clean mode, hand wash satations ever few feet most loos are taped off, however no reports of any ilness.

Land lovers will notice ship moving at lot as sea is quite rough but Sun is sailing fine, pools all still in use.

Buffet line very slow as everything is given to you no self service.

Weather very windy on deck force 7, sun nice and warm around

26 degrees not much cloud.

Wil post this evening.

PS Hotel was Red Carpet Inn, Ft L. I know there are doing a lot of work to it but not enough, so do not stay there.

PPS Sea Princess has red and blue carpets, very usefull.

Isn't it wonderful how well the Sun Class ships ride rough weather? We thought it was like being in a hotel on land.

Sorry you had such a crummy experience in the hotel. I have never heard of it. But now I know not to stay in it. We are booked into the Embassy Suites on a frequent user ticket. There was a great deal from American Express to exchange points -= 1000 Amex points for 1300 HHilton honors points and it was just before they raised the point levels from 25,000 to 35,000 points. So we lucked out.

We're booked on the February 28th sailing. Perhaps by then Code Red will have settled down to just ordinary cleaning.

We were on the HAL Veendam and there was not a single case of noro virus on the ship. However, there were people with hand sanitizers everywhere.

Sorry to hear that the public bathrooms were off limits. HAL Veendam handled that with paper towels and a notice to use the paper towel to open the door. It made a difference. They also supplied waste baskets near the door in which to put the towels.

Look at it this way - they are keeping you from being sick.

I read in ************* that there was Norwalk Virus on the Sun on the December 10th cruise. I am sure they are working to make sure there is none on YOUR cruise.

Have a wonderful, wonderful cruise. You've looked forward to it for a long time.

Roberta

We appreciate your updates. We are beginning today to pack; we're on the two cruises following your's, so we are very interested in the noro situation. We've always been careful, and always been lucky, but, frankly, the Horizon Court serving situation does sound tiresome, especially if we will experience it for 20 days. However, after receiving 49" of snow in 8 days, days upon days of shoveling snow higher than my head, the rest of it sounds heavenly. Have fun!

Just off the Sun, Shogun...

The health precautions that you are experiencing are identical to what we had on the 12/20th-30th run. We had, according to the Captain's report on 12/28, relatively few cases of Noro and the ones we had were suspected to have come aboard on the 20th. The public restrooms were never fully operational although they do re-open from time to time. The Horizon Court situation was the worst of the inconvenience. Enjoy the D/R instead.

We had pretty rough seas as well, particularly in the early going, but it was calmer down south.

Enjoy!

Although the ship folks will give you mixed messages, we just got off the Sun on the 30th and our cabin steward had indicated to us one night after dinner that the 2 cabins next to us had been quarantined. I asked her how bad it was and she said at that time 30 cabins were under quarantine. The worst had been 2 sailings prior when 100 cabins (200 people) were infected. I do not necessarily beleive the captain when he said it is being brought on board weekly as we talked to folks from other cruise lines at the airport on our way home and they indicated that there was no such activity on their ships. I am unsure what to believe.

SAhogun - Yor "Live From" is very refreshing - moreso than some of the others. I don't have to know what you had for breakfast, what "special" dinners that they made "just for you", or what time you go to bed. The Sun is one of our favorite ships - we will be on her again in 2008 from Sydney to San Francisco - really looking forward to that trip (31 days).

They had the restroom doors open on the Diamond too and encouraged people to use there own cabins as much as possibe.

Sounds like you are having a great time, watch the SUN and don't ruin your vacation by being sore from too much of it:D

Happy New Year, let us know what they do onboard in terms of celebrations???:)

Hi Shogun,

Glad to hear you're having a nice time. We were on the Sun Thanksgiving cruise and there were no problems with the noro-virus (thank goodness!).

This was our favorite cruise so far! If you get a chance, go by the La Pattisserie bar in the Atrium area and say "hi" to Ted and Girlee! What wonderful bartender's they were:) !

Every crew member on our cruise was wonderful and I hope you find the same! To us, it really makes a difference.

Looking forward to more of your posts,

I sure hope all these problems with the ship get worked out soon...we are less than 7 weeks away from boarding....hopefully by then the noro germ & the engine? problems are worked out.

Keep us informed....try to stay positive....have a great time anyway :)

You are right.

There was mention of a problem a while back.

I don't recall exactly what, but it did cause the ship to reduce speed, and they were without AC for a few hours, I believe.

Hopefully this will soon be rectified completely, and all will be smooth cruising.

Thanks so much for the updates - I too appreciate your precise information without all of the times, foods, etc.

Very nice touch for sure.

Good Luck - Hope all is fixed very soon for each of you aboard - and especially by April!:o

We just got off the Sun on the 30th, and even though the Captain said the virus had been brought on in Fort Lauderdale, we didn't believe him. We heard quite a few people around the ship say they weren't feeling well. My husband and I experienced 2 days of the big "D" that was the worst we've ever had. Had to stay pretty close to washrooms. It ruined a couple of port days for us. I'm sure it was aboard the ship when we got there even with all the sanitizing going on.

Our seas were rough the first day as well, but by the 2nd they were great!

We really noticed a difference in this sailing vs the Dawn Princess 4 years ago. Everything was just a little less - just a feeling we had that it wasn't quite up to par with the last one. Not sure if it's due to being owned by Carnival now or not.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

Terry

Hi folks,

Still no word on what the problems are.

Loos still closed off, lots of cleaning, but no word of any illness.

would like to tell you about great party here last night, but can not,

went to the steak house had the biggest bit of salmon every well I like fish, bottle of bubbley, well meal was excellant, service was very slow but a lot of folk on other dutties so that was Ok.

Any way fell alseep at 11.45pm and awoke at 3.00am.

It was a large meal and with the drink, the heat etc.

ell there is always next year on the Emerald top tell you about.

Shop selling loads of sea sickness pills, but its not that bad.

We have a cabin at the pointe end which means when the ship rises we have to climb the corridor when she falls you land up walking faster hey its fun.

As to the cabin 217 its an odd shape and the smallest I have every been in. again as a last minute cruise we just took what was on over.
