christhree Posted July 25, 2004 #26 Share Posted July 25, 2004 . The kids were disappointed that there was no easy way to meet others of ther age. There was no happy hour or any attention paid to that age group. Well, sorry they didn't enjoy themselves....it must be a FIRST in cruise history. Last time we treated our 'kids" to a cruise, they were 25, and 21. They had a BLAST !!! Had NO problems meeting people, in fact, danced in the disco with show girls until 3-4am some nights. Partied with 6 Boston Bruins, sang karoke, went to the piano bar, casino, shows, etc. Besides mandatory dinner, we only ran into them { usually in a circle of women} around ship, or on the ONE family tour we took together at Dunn's River. They loved every second....I can't say they were sober the entire time, but hey....we all had fun, they had their space, yet we enjoyed eachothers company....there were 13 family members on that trip. The parade of women on the last night saying goodbye { 16 yr old nephew, and my 2} was amazzing.....amazzing more, 3 years later they still keep in touch with them. So I won't ask the question....why you are complaining your ADULT kids didn't "have FUN". Perhaps NCL is better for them....the old folks wear diapers in the pool { or should} LOL
Cotton Posted July 25, 2004 #27 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Uh, above poster - could you retype (or edit it) that in darker print? Couldn't read a word.
Knights on the Beach Posted July 25, 2004 #28 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Cotton, if you click on the beginning of that post and drag your mouse over it, it will highlight the post making it A LOT easier to read. I do that lots of times -- I'd go blind trying to read posts in that light color! :D
halos Posted July 25, 2004 #29 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Al...You are being unfair to the original poster. If you re-read her post, you will see that she did not use the term "my children" - (and even if she had, they ARE her children, and will continue to be until they cease to exist). I believe YOU also said "my children". Doesn't matter what age - you're just nit picking, which is not necessary. She said "our 4 kids". She also said "As the mother, I enjoyed being with these young adults..." (Mine are over 30, and I often refer to them as 'my kids' or 'the kids'...just as millions of folks do.) To Cotton, Serene and Incharge...I have to step in here a minute. I took what Al said to mean the idea of having activities specifically for that age group was something that a Mother wants for her children...young ones. Although I know what you mean about your children being your children forever, someone who expects anyone over the age of 18 to be specifically catered to socially is expecting too much. I don't think any of the cruise lines have specific activities, parties or meet and greets of any kind for adults that age... with the exception of the 'singles' thing. I agree with the young adult poster above who made it clear she'd feel as if she were being babysat if they provided activities for people in that age group. Carnival ships tend to be pretty much loaded with young adults most of the time...maybe there weren't as many on the OP's cruise..but there probably were some young adults. At that age you need to be able to approach people and make acquaintance with them on your own without 'help' if you want to have others to hang out with. Although I may have interpreted Al wrong, I took what he said to mean that a mother who expects this for her adult children is treating them like 'kids' and I have to agree. serene56 Posted July 25, 2004 #30 Share Posted July 25, 2004 I, for one am very glad that cruise lines do not have age limitations for adults. Imagine--this lounge is for 21-28 that show is for 25-30. I like the way it works that ALL adults can particiapate in everything. On a Carnival cruise sometimes at night I have a hard time deciding what to do or where to go.
INCHARGE Posted July 25, 2004 #31 Share Posted July 25, 2004 The person who initiaited this thread makes references to her children. The last time I checked, people 19 thru 23 are not children. Maybe if you stopped seeing your ADULT offspring as children, they would find the ability to meet and mingle on their own. Halos...The 2nd part of the post made me think this person was saying do not look on your adult children as "children." But the 1st part does sound like they are saying that because OP called them her children, she was in some way "babying" them instead of letting them be young adults. That is where I disagreed. That is why I mentioned that I also call my children "children". :)
christhree Posted July 25, 2004 #32 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Well, sorry they didn't enjoy themselves....it must be a FIRST in cruise history. Perhaps NCL is better for them....the old folks wear diapers in the pool { or should} LOL Sorry, to those who couldn't read my reply....trying out my new toy...LOL oooops !! Anyhoo, the prob here is not how you refer to your children....who are always, and FOREVER, your children....it is the fact that 4 ADULTS could not function with their peers...here lies the problem, IMHO.... There are FAR more people in that age group than any other , besides children under 10....MOST adapt. It's sad indeed that the "children" in question had a lousy time...and again, it must be a FIRST. kodiac Posted July 26, 2004 #34 Share Posted July 26, 2004 I am 25 years old and have been on 7 cruises with Carnival, 2 with Royal Carribean, and one upcomming with Princess for our Honeymoon. From the time I was 16 until now, I have always enjoyed CCL as I have found many people to dance with, hang out with, talk to including my age group and adults. I am sorry your kids did not have a good time, but something at Carnival keeps my attention. :) Kodiac :)
voyagerfl Posted July 26, 2004 #35 Share Posted July 26, 2004 Of course they are always your Children......but they are not "Forever" yours. Hopefully we all can be close to our parents and share with them. But......most 18 - 25 year olds are not gonna be able to cut loose if Mom and Dad are hoovering around............ I may love my parents...but at that age.........

lieutenant al Posted July 28, 2004 #37 Share Posted July 28, 2004 I did unintentially substitute the word children for the OP's choice of the word kid. This being said, I do believe that point of my argument remains fair and reasonable (i.e. people 18-23 should be able to find their own excitement on a cruise). This is especially true on a CCL cruise. CCL has organized activities rangeing from adult treasurehunt to cooking classes. I am not one to get involved in many organized activities, but at times I got a kick out of watching. If a person of any age cannot find fun things to do on a cruise, I highly reccomend they buy some Tony Robbins' CD's and learn to "live with passion!" cmez Posted August 29, 2004 #40 Share Posted August 29, 2004 I could be wrong, but I thought Jeff Bronson was CD on the Pride. What's her name, was the CD on the Paradise in January. Shawn??? (something). When did Jeff go back to the Paradise?
Lilylady Posted August 29, 2004 #41 Share Posted August 29, 2004 I was on the Paradise with my 18 yr DD and though she had a good time, it could have been better. This is only because the Paradise is a very laid back ship in comparison to other CCL ships. It was pretty dead and there were few adults her age. sea_u_onboard Posted August 29, 2004 #43 Share Posted August 29, 2004 On the older ships they do have planned activities for the younger kids in the disco - so if your "kids" showed up before like 10 they would see a lot of kids and parents in the disco. With the newer Conquest class ships the younger kids have their own disco - leaving the adult disco to the adults.
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted August 30, 2004 #44 Share Posted August 30, 2004 I was on the Paradise two years ago, been on many Carnival cruises and others, and did not like the Paradise. We found her to be quiet, boring, and just not as much to do as the other Carnival Ships, don't know why but it was true. I love all my other Carnival cruises except that one, go figure.....
