We leave on the conquest feb 17th, this will be our first cruise. So full of questions that I wouldn't know where to start. Biggest question I suppose is what kind of weather we are going to be looking at?

Another question is booking of excursions. Someone told me that it is better to book through Carnival since that gaurantees you are back before departure, but others told me that you are better to book on your own since it is cheaper?? And I am trying to convince my wife to do the race fantastique over the tulum ruins?? any thoughts?

Weather in Feb> departure from Galveston, you could get one of those cold rainy days, be prepared for that. Once you get in to the Caribbean, expect comfy temps in the low 80's

Excursions, many opinions from everyone on this subject. Jamaica, I would book thru Carnival. GC and Coz are safe enough to venture out on your own and book on your own, hire your own taxi tour

Not sure where your getting that information, but they are selling cruises for those dates. In fact one of those weeks was on the 12 days of Christmas sale.

click on Conquest, then 'fact sheet'.

I think I'd go by the Carnival web site b4 I go by a 'third party' web site.

BTW-there are some good cabins on the last one in August, I'm tempted, but I've got a big one in September.

Thanks for that website though, I hadn't been there in a long time.

I hope not since I am booked for the 24th of August, which I booked direct with Carnival. Sure hope I am not going to be sitting in the dry dock for a week. Has anyone called them to confirm. I am in Iraq and can't quite call them right now.

Your fine. I'm looking at that week now myself.

Are you 4th ID? I'm just north of Ft. Hood.

No, not with 4th ID, I am with a seperate unit that is assigned to Fort Hood. Looking forward to a much needed vacation after having 43 months total in Iraq when I finally get home. My family and I found that cruises are a great way for us all to come back together after deployments and it gives a needed break to us all.

I know that some have discussed this in the past, but I am looking for some more information. We are leaving on the 6th. We are coming in a little bit early so we have a car from the airport, but what are some of the best ways to get back when we return on the 13th? Should we book through Carnival, or should we go with someone else? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Teach, dh & I booked online with Galveston Limo...it was a shuttle bus company. they were a bit cheaper than carnival and were waiting for us as we were pretty close to the last ones getting off the boat. i would book with them again. they shuttle to both airports. carnival on goes to Bush...we flew into Hobby...much cheaper and closer.

Has anyone been on the ATV tour in Montego bay. We are a group of 11 people ages 27-32 and the girls are going to sunset beach and the guys are going on the ATV tour, they were wondering how wild and crazy they can get on the 4 wheelers??? Thanks...Sue

Sue, I did not do the ATV tour...but our zip line canopy tour was at the same place as the atv tour and the tubing takes place. i actually mentioned the 4 wheelin' in my member review because it looked like so much fun, and everyone we spoke to loved it! they were covered in mud!!!!!! so be prepared to get muddy...you are in a rain forrest, and it may rain! i did not meet one person unhappy with their experience. if you are not going to do the canopy tour (zip line) which btw, i strongly reccomend, then the atv tour looks like a blast! don't forget to take a roll of quarters with ya on the ship so you can wash all that mud out of your clothes. :D HAVE FUN!

Dh & I had our first cruise in march. personally, i was glad i booked with the cruiseline. it was nice knowing i didn't have to worry about the time, that our tour guides would have us back in time. I also knew my excursion would happen, or we would be reimbursed by carnival. also, i felt a bit safer, especially in jamaica after reading some of the stuff there. perhaps after we have a few cruises under our belts, we will be a little more confident in venturing out on our own. but for now, we'll book through the cruise lines. plus, you can get off the boat quicker when you tender in. for me, it was not that much more of a price to pay to have that peace of mind. for other more experienced cruisers, i think alot of them do their own. i'm too chicken now. frankly, worrying about port time, ship time, day light savings time and all that stuff...heck, that was too confusing for me lol. i wanted to keep it simple.

have fun whichever way you choose. you can find lots of great advice here on booking your own stuff too if you choose that route.

Almost packed you present a good point regarding using Carnival excursions. However I would like to point out that you really have nothing to worry about if you do not use Carnival. All tour guides know what time the ship leaves the port and they know they have to be back in time. There is a sizeable cost savings by not using Carnival. I used another company in GC for the sting ray tour and I saved $25 over Carnival for the same tour and less crowded boat. made the excursion more pleasant. I have read several posts about people saving money by not using Carnival for excursions.

Thank you very much!!! About how far in advance will I likely receive my room assigment?

You will receive your room assignment when you receive your documents. This will usually be about three weeks before your departure. I am assuming here that you booked a guarantee or are part of a group and did not book a specific cabin. If this is so it is still possible though rare that your cabin could change again and you won't find out until you arrive at the pier.

I did book a guarantee rate, one of the cheapest. Our only week available was our kids spring break (the week of 3/16) and of course, this is the most expensive week for anything that I saw with Carnival Conquest! My logic being a newbie, was that my family and I will sleep in a closet and spend the rest of the time throughout the ship and on excursions - even if that closet is right under the pool and near an elevator! Ain't nothin' going to ruin the smile on my face!!! :D
