Gosap Posted December 26, 2007 #1552 Share Posted December 26, 2007 I did book a guarantee rate, one of the cheapest. Our only week available was our kids spring break (the week of 3/16) and of course, this is the most expensive week for anything that I saw with Carnival Conquest! My logic being a newbie, was that my family and I will sleep in a closet and spend the rest of the time throughout the ship and on excursions - even if that closet is right under the pool and near an elevator! Ain't nothin' going to ruin the smile on my face!!! :D Okie Steve, looking forward to your review and comments on the Conquest. We are not newbies to cruising, but are new to Carnival and the Conquest and are anxious to find out as much as we can before we sail! Fighterone Posted December 28, 2007 #1558 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Is there access to a hand steamer so we can look great on formal nights? Nope did not notice a hand steamer, but a good iron and ironing board in the laundry room. A lot of guys came by to iron their shirts for formal nights. spoiledkraut Posted December 30, 2007 #1559 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Another question is booking of excursions. Someone told me that it is better to book through Carnival since that gaurantees you are back before departure, but others told me that you are better to book on your own since it is cheaper?? And I am trying to convince my wife to do the race fantastique over the tulum ruins?? any thoughts? Dh & I had our first cruise in march. personally, i was glad i booked with the cruiseline. it was nice knowing i didn't have to worry about the time, that our tour guides would have us back in time. I also knew my excursion would happen, or we would be reimbursed by carnival. also, i felt a bit safer, especially in jamaica after reading some of the stuff there. perhaps after we have a few cruises under our belts, we will be a little more confident in venturing out on our own. but for now, we'll book through the cruise lines. plus, you can get off the boat quicker when you tender in. for me, it was not that much more of a price to pay to have that peace of mind. for other more experienced cruisers, i think alot of them do their own. i'm too chicken now. frankly, worrying about port time, ship time, day light savings time and all that stuff...heck, that was too confusing for me lol. i wanted to keep it simple. have fun whichever way you choose. you can find lots of great advice here on booking your own stuff too if you choose that route. Hey Almost Packed, we cruiesed together back in March and we're going again 10. Feb. Also booking through the ship will guarantie you that the ship will wait on you ,should your excursion be late for whatever reason. Remember we left a guy behind in Jamaica and their friends were asked to get on the ship or they could stay behind and wait on their friend? They got on the ship and we left without their friend. :)
ahaltom2007 Posted December 31, 2007 #1560 Share Posted December 31, 2007 I know that the casino has the standard LV games. I was wondering about the minimums on the tables and if some are better than others. Blackjack, Craps, and Roulette and any of the slots.

alaskancruiser65 Posted January 1, 2008 #1568 Share Posted January 1, 2008 Almost packed you present a good point regarding using Carnival excursions. However I would like to point out that you really have nothing to worry about if you do not use Carnival. All tour guides know what time the ship leaves the port and they know they have to be back in time. There is a sizeable cost savings by not using Carnival. I used another company in GC for the sting ray tour and I saved $25 over Carnival for the same tour and less crowded boat. made the excursion more pleasant. I have read several posts about people saving money by not using Carnival for excursions. Robb I very much agree with BB, I have been on several crusies and only booked through Carnival on our first cruise. Now we book our excursions through a private company. We have never been late back from an excursion and always have been completely satisfied with the service provided.
alaskancruiser65 Posted January 1, 2008 #1569 Share Posted January 1, 2008 Okie Steve, looking forward to your review and comments on the Conquest. We are not newbies to cruising, but are new to Carnival and the Conquest and are anxious to find out as much as we can before we sail! Steven in Oklahoma Steven, we were on the Conquest in November and was thrilled not only with the ship and the crew, but also with the excursions that we booked. We booked via a private company (pm and I will give you thier name) except for Sandals (MBJ) which was exceptional and I highly recommend this excursion. You can book it on your own once you arrive in MBJ, but we did not want to take a chance with time restraints. We booked the waverunner in the Grand Caymans and it was breathtaking. My dh and I along with a small party of 6 accompanied by a tour guide road 7 miles to Stingray City, were we handled the stingrays and then we road another 4-5 miles to the barrier reef where everyone went snorkeling. Of all our cruises this was by far the best according to dh. We have great pics if you are interested. HTH :D

BetterLateThannever Posted January 1, 2008 #1571 Share Posted January 1, 2008 I make no gaurantees there brother. This is going to be my last vacation for about 8 years as I will have 3 going into the college ranks and out by then. I intend on living it to the fullest!! My DW and I are also on the 02/17 sailing. This will be our 6th cruise and we feel very comfortable booking our excursions locally and saving the money. Just book those that schedule you back in plenty of time. Taylor's Nona Posted January 2, 2008 #1573 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Hey guys, I'm here on the Conquest, there is no vacation club here now or ever again. :( All the info I can get is that "something" happened & that they will honor our vacation club amenities but there is no club on board. :( So far all I have gotten was express sign in at the terminal.:) I don't know more than that. Almost Packed Posted January 4, 2008 #1575 Share Posted January 4, 2008 I know that the casino has the standard LV games. I was wondering about the minimums on the tables and if some are better than others. Blackjack, Craps, and Roulette and any of the slots. i think the minimum was $10 on the black jack...i could be lying though. i did see the usual on the slots...quarters, dollars, $5's a few nickel slots. i'm not sure about pennies. the roulette...i played that too but i honestly can't remember. it was probably a $5 minimum...perhaps $10 but don't hold me to it. i was on the conquest in march so who knows...it was also spring break if that makes any difference. dh played the electronic hold em table. so did i. there was a minimum buy in of $60. dh did very well at hold em. there were also several guys who got together every night for a cash game. i'm not sure what their buy ins were, but i'm sure you could find enough people for a friendly little game of cards anytime. good luck.
