Roimont Posted January 31, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Can you upgrade your cabin at the port if it is not sold out? If so, how? Does anyone know how much this would cost?
newhampshiregirl Posted January 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2007 When you check in (even if the sign says "ship is sold out" , ask for the Pier Coordinator at RCCCL and inquire about upgrades. There may be some and they will tell you the extra $ at that time.
Roimont Posted January 31, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Is this where I hand in my sign and sale information?
ckrobyn Posted January 31, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Is this where I hand in my sign and sale information? That is actually the check in agent - you want to speak with the pier co-ordinator. On each of my cruises there has always been a sign posted that stated there were no upgrades available - be prepared that this may very well happen on your sailing as well.... Best thing to do is make sure you book a cabin you are happy with - and if there is by chance a pier upgrade at sailing, then it is a true bonus! Good Luck! veryhotred Posted January 31, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2007 If there are upgrades available do they give you a discount on them or charge regular price?
cb at sea Posted January 31, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2007 If there are better cabins avail., they will charge a flat "per cabin" rate, as opposed to a "per person" charge. Good luck! The good rooms go fast!
Iamthesea Posted January 31, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2007 There use to be a upgrade scale to go by. I think Radio posted it a while back. Does anyone know if that scale is still being used?
cruisePRN Posted January 31, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2007 The diamond plus members get an upgrade for free about a month before sailing so usually the suites and balcony's really are sold out.
Iamthesea Posted February 1, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Never heard that before. How does that work?
cruisePRN Posted February 1, 2007 #10 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Never heard that before. How does that work? about 3 weeks before sailing the diamond plus rep calls and if there are upgrades available the diamond plus people get them complimantary. annie46 Posted February 1, 2007 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2007 I am confused. Why do they give people free upgrades when they could make money by selling them right before cruising ? Or do they wait and if they cannot sell all the nicer rooms, THEN do they give them away ? I had a friend take her first cruise a few weeks ago ( on Carnival ) and she had booked an oceanview. They got upgraded to a suite, and it had a jacuzzi tub so that had to be a BIG suite ? This was on the Sensation. I am learning so much on this site. :)
cruisePRN Posted February 1, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2007 It's a perk to reward their most loyal cruisers. It takes 24 cruises to get to diamond plus.
sanjoseca Posted February 1, 2007 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2007 It's true that Diamond Plus Pax are eligible for Upgrades from two to three weeks out, however RCCL hold back 5 cabins in each category for last minute sales and 2 to 3 suites. In our experience, upgrades for D+ are few and far between.
ckrobyn Posted February 1, 2007 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2007 It's a perk to reward their most loyal cruisers. It takes 24 cruises to get to diamond plus. Or - 12 cruises in a suite :)
cruisePRN Posted February 1, 2007 #15 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Or - 12 cruises in a suite :) I have never obtained more then one credit per cruise so it did slip my mind. Suites and long cruises earn more credits toward the C and A Status but you can never earn more then 3 credits in one cruise.
Merion_Mom Posted February 1, 2007 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Or - 12 cruises in a suite :) Or 8 12-day cruises in a suite. :D :D :D
PH8 Posted February 1, 2007 #17 Share Posted February 1, 2007 about 3 weeks before sailing the diamond plus rep calls and if there are upgrades available the diamond plus people get them complimantary. Plus there has to be 5 in each category......JS or GS or OS.......you dont get one if there are 5 total suites(i.e 2 JS,2GS,1 OS)........ And you can only go from inside to outside.............outside to balcony..balcony to suite............. It is not as easy to get as one thinks...... And it is for cruises 5 nights or longer.............not good for those measly short Sovereign cruises :p You have to have 75 cruises to get upgrades on shorter cruises.. AFT_LOVER Posted February 1, 2007 #18 Share Posted February 1, 2007 but Cruise Credits. Up to 3 each 2 week cruise in a JS + . So do that 8 times & you are Diamond Plus! Iamthesea Posted February 2, 2007 #21 Share Posted February 2, 2007 So, you are saying that if a Diamond plus member has an Inside stateroom booked, a RCCL rep may call them and offer the Royal Suite for free! Doesn't seem right even if they have cruised more. How do they decide which Diamond member to call first? OK, just disregard the above questions. I wrote this reply around 5:00 and thought I had submitted the question. Just came back on and found it still sitting on my screen, so I submitted it and then read the newer post. :D What y'all have stated makes more sense, now. Thanks! I forgot about the double credit if we book a suite. Guess we will be up to 8 credits after our next cruise.
