Passenger with disability

BRANMUFF

Recommended Posts

My wife and I will be sailing March 4th on the Norwegian Spirit from New York City. She is confined to a wheelchair. We are booked in a wheelchair -accessible cabin. I would like to know if anybody has sailed the Spirit with a wheelchair bound person, and could give me hints of what we can do and not do/where we can go on the ship and not go. This will be our first cruise.

Howdy BRANMUFF!

Welcome to Cruise Critic and the Need Help Using The Boards? Ask Here! Forum! 04.gif

Thank you for your inquiry. However, you have posted on the forum where members find the "How to ..." type of information for using Cruise Critic's software such as avatars, signatures, countdown clocks or tickers, attaching pictures, etc. It is not the place for your type of post and the information you seek is off topic here. 05.gif

Per the Community Guidelines and to help you out, I am moving your thread to the Disabled Cruise Travel Forum where it will be on topic. The new location for your thread is the best location for more of your fellow Cruise Critic members to see it and to be able to help you with the information you seek. The forum is where cruisers with physical limitations share their advice and experiences.

I hope you don't mind another friendly 05.gif suggestion, but you might want to read the Community Guidelines and FAQ. Especially the "Getting Started" section in FAQ. You will see how a new topic should be consistent with the specific forum you choose. It also gives a brief summary of the topics covered in some of the forum sections. Click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/index.php for the list of all the Cruise Critic forums and be sure to read all Announcement and Sticky threads at the top of the various forums for additional information too.

I sincerely hope this will be satisfactory, and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

We were on the Spirit just after she was transferred to NCL. Since she has been in drydock at least once since then, I do not know if they have made any improvements in accessibility.

The accessible cabins (all inside) were medium sized for accessible cabins. The bathroom was a little small, with a roll-in shower and roll-under sink. The only issue we had was that the beds were very low, but our cabin steward added an extra mattress which helped. Note: This may have been changed in dry dock.

Most of the ship was accessible with the exception of the art gallery which was upstairs. It was difficult to get a wheelchair out onto the promenade deck except near the pursers desk and was also a bit tight to get a wheelchair through to the back of the French speciality restaurant.
