SeaDream Air?

Recommended Posts

Hi, just musing about SeaDream for 2008. I don't see anything on their web site that indicates that they arrange air travel. I often use cruise air because it's convenient, risk free and sometimes cheaper, especially since it's usually open jaw. Would I have to book my own for SeaDream?

I'm doing a comparison among several cruise lines for the Med in 2008: Regent (my current loyalty), Silversea, SeaDream and Oceania. My preference is for small ships, but wondering if SeaDream might be a bit too small. My favourite Regent ship is the Paul Gauguin, which has about 330 passengers.

Hi Wendy:

SeaDream does not handle air at this time. I agree buying air in conjunction with the cruise is convenient and can have some benefits if there are delays. We usually find good rates and travel the day before the cruise to cover all bases. I dont think you will find SD too small. In one of my cruise reviews I wrote about being amazed that in a week on a ship with no entertainment, no rock climbing, no art auctions, no theatre, etc. that a week can go by and you find you have not done all you wanted to. Always something going on with this passenger mix.

All the best,

Jim

Thanks Jim, for the reply. The air is not a show-stopper. I've only been on Regent, so no rock climbing! The art auctions are always very discreet and non-intrusive. But when you say no entertainment, do they have a piano bar or something? I don't actually like the so-called broadway shows, but don't mind a lounge act or two.

Wendy - I have used the air consolidator they have recommended on the website under "travel partners" ( I think) - It is Global Marine Travel. They were able to get me a great price on a last minute open jaw into Rome and out of Malta - less that $1000 at 5 days out. You do need to contact them directly - but they have an email and a phone number for them, and they are quick about replying.

I think you will like SeaDream. They are in port most nights - and in the Med I like to explore the ports - everything changes so much when the sun goes down and the regular tourists aren't there. There is a piano bar right across from the Casino that is open each night - and that can be a really good time at times. They also have movies under the stars and music at the Top of the Yacht bar.

I believe if you liked 300 passengers - you are going to LOVE 100 passengers even more.
