Has Princess stopped using trans-fats?

Hi Everyone,

Now that there is scientific proof that trans-fats are deadly, some of the cruise lines (RCI and CEL) have joined many restaurants and cities (NYC) in banning these harmful ingredients from their recipes. Does anyone know if Princess has stopped using trans-fats? If not yet, any plans for more healthful cooking in the future? I'm not talking about just the Spa menu but EVERYTHING ON THE SHIP!

Are you listening Princess?????

Thanks

Life is deadly. Still, if this concerns you that much, write Princess for a response and post it here. I'm sure there are others who share your concerns.

If you wanted to start a petition/letter writing campaign, I'd be more than happy to sign or send a letter. I could probably get one from my sister and her DH, too.

I'll be writing Princess today. Thanks for bringing this up!!!! Trans-fats should be made illegal IMO. Another overlooked danger on cruise ships is the prevalence of DHMO. I personally feel it is more a threat than trans-fats and it's EVERYWHERE on a cruise ship.

I'm a chemistry grad student and I've seen the damage that elevated level of DHMO can do to one's body up to and including death. For what it's worth, I think we should be MUCH more concerned about DHMO than trans-fats. Trans-fat is linked to heart disease while DHMO has been linked to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, strokes, aneurysms and much, much more.

Part of the joy of cruising and vacations is the great food you get to enjoy. I like cooking with olive oil but don't really care what they cook with on the ship. Two weeks ain't going to kill you. If I wanted to, I could find a "scientific" article that insists that any food we put in our mouths will kill us.

My Dad has been eating "bad" for 90 years and he still walks everyday, has time to go the casino, watches his great-grandchildren play sports and will even kick a soccer ball around with them.

I'm not worried!

I am a Chemistry teacher and the day I talk about the dangers of DHMO is my favorite lesson....gets the kids really thinking

According to my research on this subject, DHMO and trans fats have similarities.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used

  • as an industrial solvent and coolant.
  • in nuclear power plants.
  • in the production of styrofoam.
  • as a fire retardant.
  • in many forms of cruel animal research.
  • in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
  • as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Contemporary Literacy is a must these days! ;) I believe I am getting off topic. :)

I highly doubt the cruise industry will ever do away with dihydrogyen monoxide; it is their main source of revenue. Without it, how would they stay afloat?!

a fully qualified chef(s) would allow such foodstuffs to be cooked.

Come on guys lighten up a little. Start a petition!.... you're havin' a laugh?

You are right. As a fully qualified, and certified Chef, I can assure you that the cruise lines take the same precautions as any other restaurant or hotel.

I also used to represent a company that supplied stock reductions for some of the cruise lines, and I can assure you that these are the finest made. We had more luck with the cruise lines than many of the restaurants that you eat in. The cruise line was willing to pay the extra money. This has been my experience.

I can also tell you that as a Chef, I am generally given a private tour of the galley by the Executive Chef, and most that I have been on are cleaner than any other kitchen I have been in.

Regards,

Chef

While we counting the bad ingredients, how about a petition to ban High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Sugar is cheaper than HFCS outside of the US due to protectionist tariffs on sugar. Take a look at the ingredient list of a can of Coke the next time you're on a Caribbean cruise. It will likely have sugar as it's sweetener rather than HFCS. I think it tastes better than HFCS Coke.

Is that why DH and I only like Fanta in Europe? I knew we weren't crazy...

But it still has DHMO, no matter where it's bottled

I had a friend who used to stock up on coke products during Passover because Coca Cola uses sugar instead of HFCS during that time period.
