cmyers Posted August 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We are going on our first Alaskan Cruise and would like to know if they provide blankets on decks when cruising Glacier Bay? Silly question but sometimes a jacket is not enough on a cold lounge chair.
2552phxcrzr Posted August 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2004 When we did our Alaska cruise on Princess, wool blankets were available on deck. You checked them out from an attendant, and when you returned the blanket it was noted on the list. In fact, we kept ours and took it down to our veranda to use there as well and returned it before disembarkation.
doone Posted August 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2004 When I sailed to Alaska on Holland America, yes, they did have wool blankets for your use on the outside decks.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2004 :) We had beautiful red plaid blankets on our HAL cruises. They were stacked in piles for outdoor use. Never noticed anyone taking names to check them out. They were in our suite when we got on the ship. :)

jhannah Posted August 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Nope, not silly at all. When you're right in the middle of an ice field, you can assume it will be cool. On our Glacier Bay experience it was cloudy with fairly high winds. The blanket came in very handy for DW who tends to chill much easier than I do. sail7seas Posted August 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Not a silly question and I must admit in all the years I have participated on this Board, I do not recall it ever being asked in the past. They had beautiful red wood, plaid blankets available on our recent Maasdam Canada/New England cruise. They were piled on Promenade Deck, at aft pool and there were two in our suite when we arrived. Krazy Kruizers Posted August 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2004 :) When we were in Glacier Bay we did use ours when we sat out on the verandah watching the glaciers calve. We didn't have to use them on our Canada/New England cruise. :)
sail7seas Posted August 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We didn't need them for the Canada/New England cruise either but it was nice to know they were available if we wanted them. DH sat at the pool most afternoons.....no wool blankets needed. :)
CDRMark Posted August 5, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Not only NOT silly, but it wasn't on my list of things to find out, and should have been. Thanks for asking!
cmyers Posted August 6, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted August 6, 2004 Thanks for all your replys- this board is the greatest. I didn't want to pack our blanket throw if not needed. With all the heavier winter clothes the suitcase will packed to the hilt already. Again much thanks
bepsf Posted August 6, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 6, 2004 I seem to remember a couple of those blankets stashed away with the extra lifevest in our stateroom...
sail7seas Posted August 6, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 6, 2004 If there are no lap blankets in your cabin and you want them, ask your steward. He will get them for you.
