Cashing US Traveller Chqs onboard by HAL?

Well, we're down to the last 9 sleeps...yahoo...final details/plans taking shape! Here is a question for the HAL experienced CC'rs.

One of our group members assumed we wouldn't be able to cash our US Traveller Chqs onboard the ship...that HAL wouldn't have that much onboard...

My plan was to take some US $$ in cash for tips, the balance in traveller cheques and cash along the way (on board the ship) as needed. I'd prefer not to have to run around to find a bank in each port willing to cash traveller chqs.

Anyone have any experience with cashing US Traveller Chqs onboard HAL ships?

IF the front desk ran low on cash (and that's highly unlikely) I'm sure the casino could help supply some! :)

The Front Desk run low on cash? Ha! Now, there have been times they've run low on large bills (I needed 20's and 50's), but they were able to cash my Travelers Checks by giving me small bills.

No worries ... we always cash trav chex at the front desk, particularly to have some cash when we visit ports and to tip crew who've gone above and beyond. Front desk seems to have an unlimited supply of greenbacks ... maybe they make them in the backroom.

Okay, sounds like a unanimous agreement, we can cash traveller chqs on board the ship...Yahooo...look out, here we come ;)

Thanks everyone for your replys. Up till now, I didn't feel panic'd about getting a question posted and answered, but now, we are getting down to the wire (at last).

This may be a very silly question but when you say that you cash travelers cheques at the front desk, do you get the cash in Euro's if you are in Europe? And if so, do you take Euro travelers cheques? We will need quite a bit of cash in Euro's and can't decide the best way for us to bring it. Any suggestions?

Since you can exchange trav chks for $, and $ for Euros on the ship, there's no need for Euro trav chks. In fact, IMO the ship probably wouldn't take them. You can convert unused Euros back to $ (no coins though) at the front desk also, but on each conversion either way the exchange rate favors the ship.

But, I prefer to get my Euros at a shore ATM. You'll get good exchange rates that way.
