Quiet Hotel

HI all. Not sure if this is possible but here goes.

We are spending 5 nights in New York on our honeymoon after our cruise on QM2.

I'm looking at hotels just now and we would like a combination of a minimum four star hotel that's close enough to all the major attractions and is not just the average bland skyscraper but has a degree of old world charm and is also a haven of tranquility at night. We are both light sleepers and hate staying in hotels with lots of noise. Now that can be outside noise or the sound of slamming doors.

In a city like New York is it possible to have the best of both worlds ?

Thanks guys.

Check these out:

The Michelangelo

The NYC London

The Giraffe

Not in midtown but THOR

http://www.hotelonrivington.com/

The Muse

http://www.themusehotel.com/

The Iroquois

http://www.iroquoisny.com/

I've stayed at all of these except for THOR (The Hotel On Rivington) and they are outstanding.

If you budget is lower the Affinia Hotels (http://www.affinia.com/) such as The Shelburne Murrey Hill, The Dumont, and The Eastgate are all good. Also, The Park South (http://www.parksouthhotel.com/) is a great boutique hotel as is The Exchange Hotel (http://www.exchangehotel.com/) however it is all the way downtown.

If your budget is more than $500 per night, I can give you some great ideas also (Mandarin Oriental, The Pierre, The Four Seasons, Plaza Athenee, The Mark, The Carlyle, RC Central Park, etc).

Thanks for your help. The Michelangelo seems to hit a lot of the right notes for us.

Just which type of room to go for?

If you want quiet, ask for a room in the back. You won't be able to see the street from your room but who cares, especially if the traffic noise will keep you up all night. NYC is not a quiet place. Funny, I'm so used to it that when I go away I can't sleep if it's quiet.

Yorky

We have booked The Michaelangelo in November for 5 nights prior to our cruise and got a ggod price through Quickbook.com.

Got a better rate than booking direct with hotel on their web site.
