Appropriate dress for men – an idea

Recommended Posts

I’m trying to find a happy medium for what to wear during our excursions, and would appreciate some feedback from those with experience in these matters.

In Villefranche, we’re doing the ships sponsored Nice, Eze, Monaco tour, so I plan on wearing long pants and a nice shirt (silk, short sleeves – but a muted pattern) so we can go pretty much any place, including the Grand Casino, as it will not be in the evening.

In Florence, we’re doing the “Florence on your own” tour, and I’m since most of the venue’s are Museums (already have our tix to Academia) and there may only be a few cathedrals we may venture into, I was thinking of wearing shorts, but putting my gortex rain pants in our carry around bag, so I could pull them on over my shorts before entering a religious site, where shorts are taboo. Any thoughts / comments on that approach?

For Naples/Amalfi we have private tours set up, so my thought is to keep a pair of Dockers in our mini-van, and do a quick change if/when needed. Just the reverse in Rome – start out long (the Vatican is the first stop) and then change to shorts afterwards if it is as hot as I expect it to be in July.

Walking around Venice, I would again use the “rain pants” idea, as I do not expect to spend too much time in churches, but don’t want to be turned away, either.

What about shorts while in Dubrovnik? Any issues there? Likewise Corfu?

Thanks,

Terry

You may have already seen my mantra on other posts......"shorts with zip in pant legs".

Gortex is soo hot. I used to run in the rain with them. Don't you think you'd be better off with a lighweight baggy type of sweat pant (for lack of a better discription) - ones that fit over your shorts?

Thanks to everyone for your input and suggestions.

I’m so short that I usually take my shorts into the tailor to be shortened, so I doubt that the zip off pants will work for me. Maybe I’ll try a sporting goods store and look for a very light weight pair of “wind pants” of something along those lines.

Thanks again.
