I would get a new one. It's not worth the hassle if someone questions it. I was just renewing my driver's license last year and my seal wasn't raised due to age and just handling it and motor vehicles in NJ gave me a hard time. Just get a new one. Have a wonderful cruise.

I actually think they will accept it, especially since it is for a child. However, that being said I think if you are relying on a birth certificate you should always carry more than one copy in case something happens to that paper document. It is a good idea to get a few copies to keep at home and travel with at least two. Similiar to with passports, they recommend that you take a xerox of your passport when you travel abroad as well so if you lose it, you will at least have the front two pages with your personal information and photo to assist you.

Welcome to the boards. They are addictive! Birth certificates are not very expensive, especially when getting multiples. I requested three for my 18 yo DS when I needed to get him a passport. I gave him one, I kept one, and mailed one in. I did get the mailed in one back. They do need to be certified with the seal. I would go ahead and get a new one. That way you don't have to worry about it.

I had my original from 1972 & it was stained but you could still read the info & the agent took it. I guess it all depends on the amount of time you have to get a new one. Best of luck.

If you have time always good to get another...but mine is 37 years old and very brown and such and have always used it and no trouble at all, because the info is all there just fine....so no worry if u don't have time.

Have a great cruise

I, too, had no problem with a worn birth certificate until I did!! I was surprised when they wouldn't renew my license even though the same birth certificate, as badly worn, was used just a few months before. I would just get a new certified copy and be done with it. It all depends on how the person reviewing it is!! My being turned away to renew a drivers license was not a big deal, it could be at port trying to board or worse, tring to come back!!
