Golfette Posted June 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2007 We're dealing with an agent we know nothing about. How can we find out if they are reputable? What agencies oversee TA's, if any? Thanks!
Rare LHT28 Posted June 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2007 I am not sure if TA have to be a member of ASTA or not http://www.astanet.com/ Here in Ontario, Canada they have to be a member of TICO and we can check them out via the registrar. orchestrapal Posted June 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2007 Oceania has a listing on their web site of reputable agents. We found a wonderful one on their list.:)

digby Posted June 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2007 How about checking with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints about them on record? Why, I wonder, would you pick an agent you know nothing about?
Golfette Posted June 30, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted June 30, 2007 Digby, my friend got a mailing from agent on Oceania "letterhead" offering an interesting cruise at 2 for 1 with airfare. The TA was very informative & responded to all our many questions promptly. Since we are not cruisers or travelers in general (golf trips only), we do not have a TA. I did check BBB, gov. agencies, etc., but no report. Finally (after posting this question) I went on Oceania website & found the TA was listed on the "smaller agency" grouping of TA's on their site. The TA had told us she used to work for Oceania. There was a deadline (today) on this offer & we were trying find out all the details in just a few days. Jancruz Posted June 30, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2007 Hi Golfette, Here is how Oceania's list works..each area has an RSD (Regional Sales Director) each year the RSD hands in a list of agents that she works with..and likes (does a fair amount of business with) and they are placed on the list! I am with Digby about recommendations from people!! Although she could be a great agent.. Also there are NO deals that I know of that end until August 30..(unless the agency itself is giving you something for booking..grats, shipboard credit, etc.).. Hope this helps..
