cruiselover68 Posted July 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Just received a message from my friend who works on Millie, today they had a Black out on the ship with no power, no water and no lights for 35 minutes. Did anyone ever have this kind of experience on a cruise?

nu2sea Posted July 2, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2007 There was a ship in Lahina with us last October, I think it was an NCL ship, that had been without power overnight. Susan

rebeccalouise Posted July 2, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2007 On Oceania there was a "black out" that only affected one side of the ship for about 30 minutes.

Galer99 Posted July 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2007 We were on the NCL Wind in Dec 2001, Singapore to Sydney, and one of the sea days the power went out. The crew was magnificent, setting out a barbeque on deck within minutes and passing out rum punch like it was water. Power?? We didn't need no stinking power!! TeaBag Posted July 2, 2007 #13 Share Posted July 2, 2007 That would be pretty scary if you were in the middle of 6 sea days in the Pacific ocean!!
Kapricorn Posted July 2, 2007 #14 Share Posted July 2, 2007 When I was on the Rotterdam's October 1989 Vancouver-to-Miami transcanal cruise, the ship had a two-hour blackout off Los Angeles late one afternoon. Free drinks were provided for the passengers, and the ship's lounges and bars were crowded with people having a jolly good time! There were plenty of windows on that ship, so we had sufficient natural light. Donald.
BikerAl Posted July 2, 2007 #15 Share Posted July 2, 2007 We were on the Carnival Liberty, sailing from Costa Rica to Limon, when we lost ALL power (other than the cash registers) for about an hour, and then another hour to get all back to normal. The ship coasted to a stop, and DW was sure the black helicopters were coming, and we would be overrun. The only disturbing thing to me was a lack of comment from a line officer, with all anouncements handled by the cruise director (John Heald). I want to hear from someone running the ship, not the bingo game. Arrived late in Panama, which meant missed tour, which was totally a bummer. Carnival, was very good about providing compensation. berryhappy24 Posted July 3, 2007 #16 Share Posted July 3, 2007 It was only about 5-10 minutes, then some flickering. I didn't even notice it, I was reading and in a deck chair facing the ocean. Dh was in the casino and it was pitch black, then the flashlights came out and the dealers slapped covers on the chips. Our tablemate was in the shower in an inside room, no water and no lights. See M'illie 6/30-7/12" for our other troubles. I'd take a blackout over broken propeller.
