mchlhaystead Posted May 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2004 tram tickets thru the cruise line are much higher priced than purchasing them on shore. to avoid lines on shore has anyone purchased them prior to sailing? can you purchased then early? thanks for the info........ michele
judy158 Posted May 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2004 Why purchase them on the boat? If the weather is not good, you may not want to spend $21 or whatever the price is to go to the top and see clouds.
kimba_99 Posted May 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2004 From memory the cost via the ship was only $2 more than purchasing at the Tramway ticketing office. As the last poster stated, why bother if the weather is poor you probably won't want to go. MO, don't pre purchase tickets, we went after lunch and there were no lines. Also, the tickets are good for all day, go up and down to your heart's content. Check out my pics of Alaska, there are one or two taken from the top of Mt Roberts (look thru both sets of photos). The view was great, the short movie interesting and the walking track enjoyable, I thought it was worthwhile going. Hope you have a clear day! Budget Queen Posted May 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2004 On some cruiselines the price is the same. I never recommend purchasing the tickets ahead. Always wait until you get there.
Dushi Posted May 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Kim- Those are great photos that you've posted. I especially like the one of the ship at sundown and of Creek street. Been on the Golden and Grand Princess ships but have never been able to get such good lighting on the evening shots of the ship. We'll be on the NCL Spirit on 5/22 so it's a treat to see such nice pictures of our upcoming destination. Rare Roz Posted May 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2004 The day I was in Juneau, my glacier helicopter tour was canceled due to the pea soup conditions. Did the tram instead. Even though we couldn't see anything, there was lots to do once you got to the top of Mt. Roberts. We bought souvenirs, drank a glass of Alaskan beer, listened to a singer, and visited a wildlife center. There were no lines to purchase tickets or take the tram. kimba_99 Posted May 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Flintstone Our cruise was June 16 - 23 2003 Seward to Vancouver. Anchorage rained the day we arrived and was sunny and quite hot the next day. Skagway started out ok but after lunch it rained and was cold and foggy, all fishing tours were cancelled and a few helicopter flights also that day. Juneau was cloudy but an otherwise clear day (no fog) with no rain. Summer solstice was on 21 June I think, the day we were in Ketchikan and we had a lovely clear day. Only day on the cruise warm and sunny enough to sunbake was the last day before Vancouver. Be prepared for all types of weather. Enjoy your cruise!!! qqqsal Posted May 13, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Kimba, I would also like to say how much I enjoyed your pictures, esp. the pool at night. Did you turn off the flash? Thanks for sharing. Happy cruising. I'm going on the Oosterdam on the 29th. Yippee.
Rare geoherb Posted May 13, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 13, 2004 I had planned for us to take the tramway, but it rained the day we were in Juneau. I was glad we had not purchased tickets in advance.
