Candle Question

Thanks, I was thinking that might be the case but its not mentioned anywhere I could find.

Lighted candles are not allowed on any cruise ship I've been on due to the potential fire hazard.

If a lighted candle is necessary to set a mood, do as a previous poster said and take an electric candle stick.:)

PS. Any object lighted by a match (outside of tobacco products) is normally forbidden in cabins and on balconies. Not sure why tobacco products are OK and incense isn't but I don't own or operate a cruise ship.

Real lighted candles were placed on each table on formal night in the Emerald Princess dining rooms this April.

Any candles on the dining tables on the ship are under the direction and jurisdiction of the dining room staff. I was speaking about pax cabins and balconies. Please amend my previous post to cover that fact.

My personal opinion is that smoking should not be allowed. Proof is the Star fire. Is the hazard really worth it?

Amen to your comment. I experienced the Star Princess fire up close and personal. I can't imagine anyone thinking that anything that creates a flame would be allowed. I hope I never have to experience what I did on Star on any other ship because of some thoughtless and careless people and that includes teenagers. Leave your candles home. You can do without them for a while.

More people have died from heart attacks on cruise ships, maybe they should not serve fatty foods:rolleyes:

Well, I guess if Princess thought it shouldnt be allowed then there wouldnt be any more smoking, right??? I also think that because drunk idiots fall overboard that there shouldnt be any alcohol allowed. Come to think of it, gambling is a problem with some people too...lets ditch the casinos. I'm sure we come up with 20 or 30 other things that are a problem when abused by morons.

Someone died from smoke inhalation in the Star fire. The report was recently published and a cigarette on the bacony was determined to be the probable cause. I've seen pictures from that fire, it is a miracle more were not killed. Some people were trapped in their cabins and their repeated phone calls for help went unanswered. The reason the fire spread so quickly was that Princess had not been required to use fire resistant balcony furniture and so they did not. There was also a delay between when a passenger reported smelling smoke and when action was taken. Some members of the crew were truly heroic, others were very disorganized. After reading the report in full and knowing Princess has made changes, I feel comfortable cruising with them again. I'd feel more comfortable if smoking were banned on the ship. I'm sure we'll see this in our lifetimes, not only because of fire dangers, but because the number of peopole who smoke is declining and non-smokers would love the option of breathing fresh air on their balconies and elsewhere.

Candles in the cabin are obviously a bad idea. The battery operated (no flame) candles are great and we have taken them with us on cruises.

I know this is a little off topic but as a smoker for 30 years and currently smoke free for 3 months I could never understand why they allow smoking in the cabin anyways. Does Princess still allow smoking in the cabins? There are places to smoke onboard and it just seems so dangerous to me. I think of the folks that have a little to much to drink, go back to their cabin and light up......ugh....

Congratulations on being smoke free for 3 months! Keep up the good work. With the price of cigarettes so high you are probably rolling in the dough. You'll have enough to cruise more often.
