Transfers around NY and to Red Hook

Hi, We are spending 5 days in New York before our cruise on the 19th August. We are looking at car/limo services from the Airport to our hotel, from the hotel to the cruise terminal and then back to JFK for our return journey to the UK. Could anyone recommend a car service - we have looked at Carmel and Tel Aviv but would prefer to use a service that is recommended and reliable. Any help would be appreciated - thank you.

Just take a NYC yellow cab when leaving the the airport and heading to your hotel. They have flat rates going anywhere into new york city for $45, not including tolls and tip. You can google NY taxis or go to www.ny.com/transportation/taxi and they have alot of info on getting aroubd.

I lived in Brooklyn near the Red Hook ship terminal and always used Eastern Car service (they have a website www.easterncarservice.com) and the # is 718-499-6227. You can probably arrange a pick up from the Brooklyn pier going to the airport. But when you are in NYC, just use the yellow cabs.

I hope this helps!

We just came back last week from our Crown cruise. We used a Yellow Cab from JFK to the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. The charge was $45. flat rate and we added a $5.00 tip. As far as cabs go, only use a yellow cab. We arranged a car service at the hotel to the ship, it was $15. Have a wonderful time in NYC and on your cruise, wish I was going again soon.

I live in NYC and have used Carmel and Tel Aviv car services many times. Both are fine, reputable and dependable. The advantage over a yellow cab is that you can pay with a credit card, if that is something that appeals to you.

If you decide to use a cab, make sure you take the addres of the Brooklyn pier - many cabbies don't know where it is or will tell you they don't want to drive there.

They can't refuse you - once you are sitting in the cab, they have to take you. If you have the address, it will be a lot easier for you - no excuse for them saying no.

The 45.00 flat rate is only to and from Manhattan -JFK, not all of New York City. Brooklyn is by meter. Assuming you hotel is in Manhattan it is a flat rate of $45.00. Although sometimes the cab charges the flat rate to downtown Brooklyn(they shouldn't but many times this will be in your favor not the cabbies) but you can't demand it.

Yellow cabs will be easy to get from the airport. They are relatively easy in Manhattan as well although many cab drivers claim not to know where the Brooklyn Red Hook cruise terminal is.

Any of the Brooklyn car service will pick you up at the Red hook terminal and take you back to the airport for the same or slightly less than a yellow cab. A yellow cab sometimes is hard to come by at the cruise terminal. Most car services want you to call when you are getting off the ship since you can disembard in a window that is hours long.

Among the recommended ones are Arecibo, Carmel and Cadman Plaza. Carmel has a website with discount coupons. The cost of a car service from JFK to either Manhattan or Brooklyn's hotels will be about the same as a yellow cab.

John F. Kennedy International Airport

- The TLC has established a "Flat Fare" program for trips to and from JFK and Manhattan. The flat fare is $45.00 plus any tolls. There is no set fare to or from JFK to any point in New York City outside of Manhattan, and the metered rate applies.
