Oh No! Heelies for Adults!!!!!!

OK this may get me in trouble, but I have no problem with supervised kids using heeleys. My dd wears them at the mall or Target or whatever and hangs on to me or my shopping cart and just "coasts". She doesn't go racing down the aisles or taking off without me. The only mishap she's ever had was on the sidewalk outside my house when she rode them unattended once (wearing a helmet, just like with skates outside) and skinned her knee, like kids do on their bikes or whatever. In public, she's no more dangerous on those than I am with a shopping cart.

The problem with Heeleys is the same as the problem with everything kids do, IMHO: lack of supervision.

And, I'd totally buy a pair of Heeleys. I love them and think they're totally cool. Of course, I have manners and common sense and wouldn't ride them where I'd be dangerous to myself or others, like a cruise ship.

seems we have a case of children with children.

I'll pretend this wasn't meant as a personal attack and say, "thank you". I've always prided myself on my youthful and fresh outlook on life. I hope I never get to old to enjoy the new trends! I also look very very young and have even been ID'd recently at the casino. My husband likes to use that cliche'd Playboy joke and call me his "wife of 16 years"! :)

However, I do have to say I have raised the best behaved child in the whole world, Heeleys or no. There's only so much damage she can do rolling around holding on to mommy. She puts her wheels out, and grabs my arm and I pull her around, coasting. And the kid wouldn't dream of riding them alone in public, even if I allowed her to, which I wouldn't, any more than I would allow her to run around at the mall or in restaurants, or to listen to her MP3 player unmonitored.

As with everything, the few people who are stupid enough to allow their bad kids to get away with rolling around obnoxiously, causing danger to themselves or others, or possibly breaking things or wreaking havoc in public ruin them for everyone. Just be responsible with your Heeleys, just like you would with your car, your bike, and no one will get hurt. If Heeleys were inherently dangerous, they wouldn't allow them on the market - it's operator error, not the product itself, when someone is hurt or people are rude.

And now, from the Maker of Heeleys - Try New BAG OF SHARDS! They're the most laughs you've had since MATCHES OF FUN! And for the younger set, try new, STREET PLAY, JR and SCISSOR RUN, JR!

Kids & adults rollerskating outside is not an issue. Skates belong outside, or in proper venues such as rinks.

However, heelies in the mall, movie theater, grocery store aisles, or cruiseship corridors is a major disturbance------also an accident waiting to happen.

Anyway, does this thread truly belong on the fashion board?

Ok it seems that you have your child totally under control as to the Heelies. Now the major question. Who will hold your hand when you wear them?

Are you volunteering? :)

Anyway, I probably won't be buying them since I'm poor and saving for my cruise! My mom bought my dd's.

But, if I do, I promise to have the good sense not to wheel around other people or in public places like a cruise ship. Really, common sense is alive and well, even here in the United States, despite significant evidence to the contrary.

I have two very firm rules that I live by - NEVER get too close to married ladies unless you receive full permission from the husband and never any ladies married or otherwise with dependent children of any age. Really simplifies life.

Oh, I don't know, it might add a whole new dimension to formal night...feeling the breeze through my hair and having my long gown flapping around my ankles as I sail around the promenade deck. Wow, the hallways would be fun too, playing dodge the other passengers, maybe even snagging a few along the way.:D

Very well said ! I also share the same outlook on life as you.If someone was to ask me when am I going to grow up and act my age my answer will be come back and ask again when I am 60.There are always people who think once they get past 30 something it is time to act like an "old fogy".They are the ones who never really experience and enjoy life.Just the opposite of people like you and me.

I have to share...

I teach in a high school, and last year students were starting to wear healies in the school. One student, after being pushed good naturedly by another student, came flying into my classroom--while carrying her computer--, tripped, crashed to the floor, and hit her head. Her first concern? Nope. Not the computer, nor her own health. Her plea: Don't tell the principal that healies shouldn't be allowed in the school! I'm still fighting for this one with the powers that be.

Our schools here don't allow them, thank goodness. I do actually understand the studen'ts point of view, though. To a high school student, the social death that would come from being "the one responsible for the Heeley ban" would probably be worse than suffering a concussion.

Of course it really wasn't HER fault she got pushed, but I see your point.

What I really would like are sneakers that light up when I walk!:o

Hey--that's doable. We'll get some duct tape and strap on a couple of mini-flash lights to your sneakers!! :p :D ;)

I'm sorry, and I'm sorry that many people will now get upset with me, but heelies, rollerskates, rollerblades, skateboards, etc. have no place indoors. If you choose to allow your child to wear them indoors, then please make it your own home, not someone else's business. While I'm sure your child is an angel who has never disobeyed you, I work in a store where the secod a parents back is turned, out come the heelies. They run into displays, scuff the floor, and bother other customers. Should you dare say anything, the parents get defensive about their lack of parenting skills.

Regardless of whether or not you love heelies, they are as inappropriate indoors and on a cruise ship as skateboards are. It doesn't matter who the rider is gripping on to.

My DS 16 is on his third pair. His summer job is to check telephone poles for information and he uses the Heeleys to get from pole to pole quicker!

He use to use them in the mall and school (without permission from me) but both places have banned them. When he couldn't drive they were a better idea for him to get around the town.

He did not use them when we went to Disney or on our cruise.
