Any body ever gone to Mahno Beach??? AIRPLANES LANDING

I've been to Maho and the planes do fly right above you-if you are on the beach. There is also a nice bar/cafe (Sunset Beach?)there to sit and watch the planes come in. We took a taxi over, then walked back to one of the larger hotels to catch a taxi back.

I can't wait to go back in November!

Fun way to spend a couple of hours. Try to find out the best time to go to see the big jets landing. Remember the middle of the beach is empty for a reason! Some people think that by some odd miracle it was left just for them!

As Frank Barone would say"HOLY CRAP". Those things are close. How far from the cruise port is this? Is there an excursion to Maho?

No excursions for the planes at Maho, just grab a cab, hopefully with others to keep the fare pp down. Allow 45 minutes to get there, twice that to get back to the ship in the late afternoon, what with congestion, drawbridges and all that. Better back 30 minutes too early than 10 minutes too late:)

Free drinks for topless women at Sunset Beach Bar, the place with the red umbrellas in the picture. And this is the Dutch side, not the "let's get naked" French side.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes, we were just there last week on Liberty of the Seas. Nothing can prepare you for the thrill - it's just unbelievable.

We rented a car and drove ourselves to Maho Beach; it was fairly early in the day and traffic was light. It took no more than 20 minutes to get there. We parked and went for a swim as the planes landed over our heads, just like the videos and pictures we had seen for 2 years leading up to this trip. It was fantastic!

You can take a cab there and back, but I think it may be just as much to rent a car, then you have the day at your leisure and can poke around a bit. We had burgers and fries at the Sunset Beach bar, hubby bought a t-shirt. We didn't see any topless women at the bar, thankfully (we had our kids) - there are families who go there, so it's not really appropriate.

We took over 200 pictures that day (see one below)... pictures exactly like the ones we had been looking at. It was an unforgettable experience of a lifetime.

We went there last year with Bernard's tour ... The bar had a radio set to the control tower, so we knew when the planes were on final approach. DH would like to go back again when we are there next year ... but we can see the same type low landings locally, so I don't know if we will ... for someone not used to it, it really is amazing to see them come in. OK, but can hubby observe females getting free drinks at your local airport-with-the-low-flying-planes? :D :) :D

What is the best time to leave so it doesn't take 1 1/2 hours to get back to the ship?

Gail

The time factor goes up in the afternoon because the drawbridges across the entry to Simpson Lagoon go up in the afternoon. If you get stuck.....

But most of the planes come in during the afternoon......

So grin and bare it. And have free booze at SBB:D :) :D
