Belongings left in the cabin

I was just wondering what the chances were of getting back something you left in the cabin.

We bought a small carpet in Istanbul and nearly left it behind in the rush to pack our cases before 10 pm as it was put in a bag out of the way behind the balcony curtains.

From my experience on previous cruises the cabin stewards don't bother to check the drawers as I've found all sorts of invaluable items in them or down the side of beds.

What about more valuable items? Has anyone bothered to get in touch with the cruise line or is it just a case of claiming on the insurance?

Thanks in anticipation

Peter

I accidently left a polo shirt last year in the cabin on the Diamond. Contacted Princess and they found it and I got it back. At the time, I wasn't sure if I'd left it on the ship or on the land tour - contacted all the venues - they all responded - and the ship had it. So I would recommend that you contact them - you have nothing to lose!

TwelveKitties, I think Peter was just asking hypothetically. He "nearly left it behind". But thanks for the information about who needs to be contacted if it happens.

After checking into our cabin before, we have had a frantic knock on the door from a cabin steward looking for something the previous passengers have left behind. I think they attempt to locate the items, but contacting them ASAP would be the only way to do it.

We have found numerous things left behind in our cabin before, from shoes under the bed to jewlery. We have always just turned them over to the cabin steward. What he does with them is only a guess.

It sometimes makes me wonder just how much our cabin was actually cleaned if I can find a pair of size 13 mens tennis shoes under my bed when I board??????????????????

OH MY GOSH!! Too funny!! My husband just "lost" his size 13's on our CB cruise! Seriously, he "lost them" some time mid-cruise, and we searched the cabin, (they are half the size of the cabin, mind you!), gym, and the lost and found, but to no avail. He was bummed because he couldn't work out without them.

We were just off the Crown this past spring and I left behind my brand new Chanel sunglasses. When I returned home I sent in a lost and found claim and someone from the department contacted me with some photos of sunglasses on that particular sailing that were also left behind. Neither of them were mine though, so I guess someone helped themselves. I've now replaced them but will be travelling with a very cheap pair.

I loaned my Dad one of my cell phones for our Hawaii trip on the POAM. He thought he lost it. When we got home I told him to just throw away the charger because it wasn't any good without the phone. Two days later my Dad got a phone call from the cruise line that he had left the phone in the desk drawer and they were mailing it to him. He asked them to mail it right to me and they did. That was really great of them. - Of course then I didn't have a charger.

I once left my PDA in the safe of my cabin on the Dawn Princess. I contacted Princess when I got home but thought for sure I would never see it again. They told me they would contact the ship. I didn't hear back from them and just went about my business. Then about two weeks later I had a package on my doorstep. I opened it and there was my PDA. I think it took two weeks because the Dawn Princess had already left for the next 10 day cruise when I had called. So, they had to wait until it came back to port and then send it on. I was quite pleased.

I have never found anything left in my cabin when I check in.

"Lost" two pairs of shoes on HAL in March. A pair belonging to my husband and a pair of my sandles. They were the ones we were wearing the last night - must not have gotten them into our suitcase. Called & emailed HAL when we got home but the shoes were never located. Oh well!

I've never found/lost anything on a cruise. But sure did last year! Somehow, I managed to loose a new, beautiful pink watch! I cannot imangine how I did that, I was so careful to put everything in my "jewlery roll". Oh, well, thankfully, it wasn't very expensive, and I have since replaced it a time or two-lol

the only thing I've left on a cruise is money in the casino. The only thing I've found on a cruise is pounds attached to my hips. Go figure, :D

Same here for me:D

Although DS has left shoes (brand new), a jacket and numerous other stuff that he 'hides' when he doesn't want to wear it or too lazy to put it away when I tell him. Never gotten anything back but haven't contacted after checking lost and found at the port:mad:

I had a friend who sailed on the Diamond and her little girl left her favorite Teddy Bear in the cabin. Needless to say, her little girl cried for days missing Mr. Teddy.

To my friends surprise, about 3 weeks after they returned home and package was delivered to their house. Sure enough it was Mr. Teddy with a note enclosed:

Your Teddy Bear enjoyed his second cruise but was very lonely

without you. We wiped away his tears and carefully packaged

him for a safe arrival back to you. Thank you for cruising with

Princess Cruise Lines.

The cabin steward remember the little girl carry Mr. Teddy around and was

sure who he belonged to. Now that's customer services 5 star!

I left a hat behind. I wouldn't have bothered but it was not my hat. I called Princess and was told to write a letter. I wrote the letter but never did get any response. My assumption is that you rarely will get anything back. So, you better check your cabin several times before departure to make sure you have everything.

That is the cutest thing I have read in years. Way to go Princess!

Calmom - another vote for a great story. I hope you enjoy Princess as much as Mr. Teddy did!

Thanks Charlie, I am very excited and counting the days actually the hours now:D I think Mr. Teddy had very high expectations and obviously they were met:)

Probably about as well as my wife took my explanation for the lacy black bra I found in my nightstand a couple days into the cruise.

Luckily for me, we found the black bra behind the couch shortly after going to our cabin on the first day. No time for hanky-panky. Also severaql beer bottles behind the curtains.

Guess the steward didn't have time to do a good inspection of the room.
