srphnx Posted August 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Small reservable dining room for a group? A ships mascot dog to pet and walk? A hammock bar? DVD rentals? Port lectures about ports instead of shops? Poker room? Comment on one or more of these or add your own idea to the list.
CruiseFever Posted August 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I like that idea of small reservable dining rooms. Why is it that I can not think of any original ideas for this? I think I am made content too easy sometimes. OH I KNOW A fantasy coffee lounge wherein the coffee would suit the fancy of whoever walked in the door and when they walked out they would be mumbling to themselves "Man, that was ONE GOOD CUP of coffee!" How did I know that dang dog would be on the list? Oy
srphnx Posted August 25, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I would also like to see some sortof public living rooms, with lots of recliners and big screen tv's. Bars WITH food!!!!
wdonnieb Posted August 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2004 A personal European lap pool on my balcony. Oh, what the hell, add a couple of statues and a fountain while you are at it and of course a personal servant. All on the AD category!
lostdart58 Posted August 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Poker room? Hold-em tournaments.....instead of bingo
Cruisin'40 Posted August 25, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I would like to see them change the port lectures into helpful information about the history/culture of the ports rather than an informercial. What is Diamond Intermational like the McDonalds of the carbbean? The private dining room would be nice for cruisers who travel in groups (I'm not one of them), do they have some smaller meeting rooms I always see "Friends of" meetings listed in the patter. TinaLee Posted August 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2004 A swim-up bar, obviously adults only. More info about ports besides shopping! Hammocks on the deck would be a nice idea... I like that one!
sue d. miller Posted August 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I love the pool idea with the statues, but with lush landscaping, and private that you could rent by the hour to be ALONE!!!! I could take the ROTTI with me!!! :D

katisdale Posted August 25, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I am a cat person and would love to cruise with my kitty. I would happily pay third or fourth person rate to bring her along.
bombero Posted August 25, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I'd really like to see a Happy Hour, from 5:00-7:00, with drinks at 30-40% off.. I think the ship would still make a fair profit, probably even better, as a lot more people would participate. It would be a really nice perk and would certainly make alot of passengers very happy, that's for sure... Bombero
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 25, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I second the true port lectures (not advertisements) with a focus on the history, culture and geography of the port, and, if English is not the primary language, a review of five of the native language's five most important words to be polite: Hello, Good bye, Please, Thank you and Excuse me. And, what is commonly done on long cruises on some other cruise lines: a free learning at sea program operated by (perhaps) retired professionals who work for no pay but get their cabin and board for free. ahracer Posted August 25, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Bars WITH food!!!! Wouldn't it be great to be able to get some nacho's or wings at the bar!!!! How about a real Happy Hour everyday at one of the bars:D Scott
AmyinGA Posted August 25, 2004 #16 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Happy Hour is a brilliant idea. That's about the time that I am heading back to the cabin to get ready for dinner...but if there was a "sale" on a drink I'd be more inclinded to stick around the pool for a little while longer and have a drink. I would like to see a PPV option on the TVs. I like to watch a movie at night before I fall asleep. And by the end of the cruise I have seen the movies and the same repeats a few times. Some people think that I am nuts for wanting to watch tv on a cruise, but it gives my some nice quiet time with my DH...and it keeps me out of the casino. I would also like Princess to add on screen viewing of accounts. Other lines have it, why not Princess?
srphnx Posted August 25, 2004 Author #17 Share Posted August 25, 2004 How about a zen like garden, maybe indoor, like the flower room at the Bellagio hotel in Vegas.
Jacqueline Posted August 25, 2004 #18 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I'd like to see Princess get rid of all those downmarket shops selling junk. Then get rid of the shopping lectures and provide port lectures. BTW its not just Princess, i think that HAL, RCI and Celbrity also all have awful shops. Its not like we dont have stores selling the exact same items at home for LESS.
Pam in CA Posted August 25, 2004 #19 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Tina... there is a swim-up bar on the Regal. :) I like the idea of being able to view accounts on the cabin TV. That would be nice. Real port lectures would also be nice; perhaps more along the lines of the naturalists on Alaska cruises who tell you about the people, the economy, history, etc. of where you'll be visiting. The only ship with a true movie theater is the Royal, which is leaving the fleet. I'd like to see real movie theaters on the other ships, complete with popcorn and candy. I'd like to see more shaded outdoor space with decent loungers where those of us who don't want to bake can go. The RCI Explorer of the Seas has some great areas up on the pool deck that were shaded. For the showers on the Grand- and Coral-class ships, I'd like to see clam-shell enclosures rather than the tiny shower with curtains. I had this on the EOS and it was much better and gave you more room without showering the entire bathroom. I'd like to see more diverse specialty restaurants on all of the ships such as not just Chinese but Thai and Indian food as well. It's not just about Italian or steak. I'd like to see the cigar room on the Coral and Island Princess properly vented so that if someone opens the door and you walk past at the same time, you don't pass out from the smell. I'll probably think of more but these are my thoughts right now. :)
Druke I Posted August 25, 2004 #20 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Pam in MA You don't count the movie theater on Regal Princess? On occasions, Princess has had great port or guest lecturers. Case in Point: Sep 2000, Sky Princess, San Francisco to Sydney, World War II Battlegrounds Cruise, they had a Brit, Bob Reynolds (I think) lecturing on the the various battlegrounds. He was excellent! Additionally, John Maxtone-Graham was aboard, lecturing on the past great liners. He is world-renowned in the field. I would second getting rid of the "cheesy" shops and their sales, and the art auctions, although I know some people who love them both. melissa_bel Posted August 25, 2004 #22 Share Posted August 25, 2004 - And one more vote for a really informative port lecture. I think it's sad that the only thing about ports worth a lecture is shopping. There's so much more to them. - Please, get rid of the bazaar on the Plaza, it's not classy. - A "winter garden" where afternoon tea would be served. - And yes, happy hour sounds good to me too! - DVD rental and a dvd-player in room
MV21 Posted August 25, 2004 #23 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Ideally in the Casino or in the card room organised by the ship 's staff. Poker tourneys would be great. For me, poker is the one thing missing on a cruise!
