threecruisers Posted September 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Did anyone have problems with smoking on The Valor we are non smokers and have heard they allow smoking in the rooms ect...any input from non smokers?
Rare finoky Posted September 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2007 It always varies from week to week on any ship. There are always places you can go to escape it except the casino. I am a non smoker and have never had a problem with it. I have to warn you though. This topic is VERY controversial and this thread has potential to turn nasty. sharonh1885 Posted September 17, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Never been on the Valor, but we are non-smokers and have only ever had a problem once where our cabin smelled like smoke in 7 Carnival cruises. The room steward came in, sprayed something and the smell was gone. I have a real difficult time breathing in smoke filled areas and so you will probably want to steer clear of the casino if you suffer the same affliction. There is no smoking in any of the lounges and on deck there is seldom a problem for me. I have read that there is a certain side of the ship that has ash trays and the other side does not, but not being a smoker, I have never paid attention. LHP Posted September 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Rarely, you will smell smoke from another cabin. Lately the worst has been the hallways when someone is smoking and leaves their cabin door open ...so that their cabin does not get smoky. RCCL (as of the 1st of the year) will not be allowing smoking inside any cabin in the private passenger areas. (only on the balconies) Oceania does not allow smoking in any cabin or on any balcony. Oceania only allowes it in 2 small areas of the ship. We have not sailed on the Valor, but found the Conquest to be one of the smokiest ships. However, that was BEFORE Carnival implemented the designated smoking areas...so that may have helped. If this is going to cause considerable concern, perhaps another cruise line with more restrictions would be better for you. Happy Cruising!!! threecruisers Posted September 17, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Ive always gone on RCCL ships, and have never had a problem in fact I don't mind smoke but our daughter can smell a cig. a mile away. we once had a room at Disney that was smoking and if you are a non smoker it was terrible it smelled like an ash tray...we didnt stay and got another room. i would think CCL would have non-smoking rooms but they dont seem to care...RCCL is going non-smoking in Jan 2008, but they are stuck on the same old places for their cruises. We are thinking of switching to CCL but its a hard sell

A lot of balcony folks now say with all the extra smoke from balcony neighbors its worse...be carefull what you wish for. Making the smokers get a balcony cabin, makes for less balconys for the rest of us at reasonable prices. They do have something very good that takes out the smell of smoke in cabin rooms, I hope they dont mess with what is working...leave the rules alone on Carnival. threecruisers Posted September 17, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted September 17, 2007 You guys must be bored, I dont care if the smokers smoke till they turn blue as long as I, You and the rest of the non-smokers aren't bothered, in fact up on deck smoke to your hearts content, there is enough wind to difuse any smoke but inside thats a different story, if they cant vent the smoke then they shoudn't allow it. i heard the internet is located through the cigar bar whose dumb idea was that. On RCCL the internet site was the quietest spot on the ship( I know go back to RCCL but we are trying to do something different)

klfrodo Posted September 17, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2007 I'm about 120 days into non-smoking. For a thread like this, do I qualify as a "Smoker" or a "Non-Smoker"? or am I in a limbo type status where I'll always and forever be a smoker, just smoke-free for 120 days now? KC Cruiseaddict Posted September 18, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Did anyone have problems with smoking on The Valor we are non smokers and have heard they allow smoking in the rooms ect...any input from non smokers? I was on the Valor last October (2006) and our room did NOT smell of smoke. :) Like the other posters said, you may smell it in the hall if the cabin door is open, and the casino is horrible...but being a non-smoker myself, I never had a problem with it. ;) Take a small bottle of fabreeze if you're worried about it...that always helps. :D Now, that being said...pass a beer my way. This is gonna be a good one!
tnrnchick74 Posted September 18, 2007 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2007 I have severe asthma and smoke is one of my triggers. We were just on the Sensation a few weeks ago. I did smell smoke going down the corridors, but not in my room. OF course the casino was smoky - not much can be done there. And a few of the bars allowed smoking, no problem we either changed bars or just moved locations. No problems at all. Only used my inhaler once (which is REALLY good for me). ParrotHead79 Posted September 18, 2007 #17 Share Posted September 18, 2007 The only smoking allowed in public areas is the Cigar Bar, and the casino. On deck, you can only smoke on the Starboard side of the ship. There are a few other areas too, but for the most part you should be ok. --The rooms don't stink. Don't worry. ALL SHIPS SHOULD BE SMOKE FREE! Smokers make me sick. ! LOL

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Smoking is allowed in other public places, such as the disco, and a few of the bars other than the cigar bar... Your comment of "smokers die" makes it sound like you want all smokers to die... perhaps rephrasing of that would be better :p LOL You know how these threads go... I've never had a cabin smell of smoke... as mentioned, if you do, let your steward know and they will take care of it :)

Your home. If you are tolerant, you can venture out, but only go to places that prohibit smoking. If you stay in these places, you should be fine. But watch out for that tall thing looming over the Lido deck. That blows the most smoke of all.
Kurbanfan Posted September 18, 2007 #21 Share Posted September 18, 2007 I have to admit we have never smelled smoke in our cabin on all of our cruises except the Elation a couple of weeks ago. I did not smell it when we first got on board but after a couple days I could smell it. I seemed like it was coming thru the walls. Normally we have a balcony and spend most our time out there and never had a problem. This time we didn't so naturally we spent more time in the cabin. So I don't know maybe it was there before just never noticed it because we never spent that much time in there:confused:
ParrotHead79 Posted September 18, 2007 #22 Share Posted September 18, 2007 CC Features page says the following: "There is no FAQ section on Carnival's Web site detailing smoking policies, but we did find this ominous note in the Contract of Carriage: "© Guest acknowledges that Carnival's vessels contain non-smoking sections. Guest agrees to refrain from smoking in those sections and agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark the Guest for failure to observe Carnival's non-smoking policy." Carnival's policy is similar to most cruise line policies: No smoking in the restaurants, no smoking in the theatres and no smoking around the indoor aft pool (on the newer ships) because food is served there. Smoking is permitted on one side in lounges and out on deck, and in cabins."
