does anyone know if there are any snorkling excursion type boats that pick up at boatyard??

 

What about parasailing- jet skis??

I guess no one has come across this thread to answer some questions.

 

It would be great if anyone had information on prices, especially jet skiing (wave runners)?

 

Pics? Anything?

 

I know, asking a lot lol but not really~ someone find this thread :)

 

We are also wondering if it gets crowded. DH and I tend to think due to the proximity to where cruise ships dock and ease of access and plenty to do....it will be a crowded place....

Hey I was over at the Boatyard about 4 years ago, before it had become what it is today. It was a great place one of thee nicest beaches I've ever a been to in the Caribbean, it just got packed later in the day. We walked up the beach about a mile and there was noone up there that was the nicest water I've ever swam in crystal clear. Too many people Im headed back to Barbados in Nov. and Im doing something different, what I dont know but Im not going to the Boatyard they'll be a zillion people there the day we port, thanks but no thanks. The Boatyard is a BIG crew favorite as well, like thee entire crew. As many people there were when I was there Im sure it hasnt gotten any better since.

It was a great place one of the nicest beaches I've ever a been to in the Caribbean,

it just got packed later in the day.

 

We walked up the beach about a mile

and there was no-one up there ===> that's where I swim..

- that was the nicest water I've ever swam in...crystal clear. ===> see attached pics!

Boatyard is just one spot along that great 2-mile-long Carlisle Bay beach.

There are several other places where you can access the beach, for free.

 

One such place is no more than about 50 yds. further along the road

that runs right past Boatyard,

it's called Lobster Alive and it's run by Art

who also plays piano in the VSOP Jazz Band!

 

Along with a bar and small restaurant,

Art's got big tanks of circulating seawater in there

and live lobsters(Langouste -with lots of prickly spines,

not like clawed Maine lobster) for you to choose from!

Good place for lunch.

 

If you go even further along(the road/Bay St. follows the curve of the bay)

there are several windows to the sea and public access places

where you can sprawl on the sand,for free, relatively uncrowded.

If you're there during the week

the beach can be quite sparsely populated

but on weekends it's very popular with locals.

Hey Im gonna be back on your island in about 60 days. I was gonna do something different this time in Barbados as opposed to heading over to the Boatyard like everyone else is going to do. Do you have any suggestions?? There are some people on the ship Im on talking about heading over to the Barbados Hilton for $25.00 you get to use there pools, bathrooms, and beaches for the day. That Lobster Alive for lunch you mentioned sounds AWESOME!! Hey last time I was in Barbados we had too much fun, great people, fun island, that Carlisle Beach we didnt know anything about it when we went to the Boatyard what a NICE surprise, that was some of the nicest sand clearest water I've ever seen, beach was very special. What is the best mode of transportation?? Will there be taxi's at the pier and can guaranted service back to the ship be arranged when they drop us off? Is renting a car/jeep a good or bad idea? (just a thought)

Any other info would be great, thanks for your input!

Yes, there are taxis at the pier(just outside the Customs Hall)

but from what I've read they're a bit predatory and overpriced(I hope I'm wrong).

 

I've heard it suggested that you bypass them and continue on,

walking out thru the gates of our Harbour complex,

where you'll find a bunch more taxis,

who are allegedly more friendly and less of a rip!

 

These are the guys you want to take you on your tour of wherever.

Generally, our guys are v.good at returning for you at the appointed time and place,

since I think(or like to think) they appreciate that you have a ship to catch by a certain hour!

Just make sure they understand that,

but our guys have been doing this long enough to know damned well what's required of them!

Renting a car means driving on the left and finding your own way around

which can be fun(getting lost? - but maybe you've been here before..)

The car should come with a map, and our maps are pretty good.

 

-you'll need to have your U.S./Canadian/UK Vehicle Operator's License with you,

and the car rental guy will take you over to the nearest Cop Shop

to register that license for Bds.$10 (=US$5) so you'll be legal.

 

Your $10 Barbados driving permit remains valid for a year,

so if you return again within a year, you're still good to go

and your next rental process will be that much quicker,easier!

 

-great excuse to book another Eastern Caribbean cruise quickly, huh?

$15 entry fee which includes a free drink, beach chair, plus unlimited use of their water games.

2 big water trampolines, inflatable rock climbing,

big rope that you can swing to the water in, volleyball + lots more.

The bar area was cool and the waiters were also there to serve you.

The beach and sand was the prettiest I had seen.

Best part is that we were able to see the ship from the beach - a whole 5 min. drive

It was fun, we got to see a lot of the island and tested out several diff. beaches,

but Boatyard was great. I'd go back in a second.

Is the Boatyard a good place for families? We will be 7 adults and kids ranging from 1-13. I am reading such mixed things! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated!

I think it is a great place for kids. The employees patrol the beach and keep undesirables out, and they are also in the water most of the time. One guy lost his wedding ring while on the trampoline and one of the guys found it in the water!!! The water and sand are incredible!!!!
