icemaiden Posted November 4, 2007 #101 Share Posted November 4, 2007 hi peter i do understand that it is not nice to breathe in other peoples 2nd hand smoke and as an x-smoker you must know how hard it is to give up, especially when we enjoy our cigarettes, we do know that it isnt good for our health the problem is that we dont need some people driving down our throats every day ( AND I`M NOT SAYING YOU) telling us it isnt healthy, i have tried 3 times and always fell back , but i will try again but when nonsmokers have got some concessions in smoking ban areas they still like to have their moans and in some ways it makes me really angry and determind to keep smoking cause their trying to dictate to me what i should and shouldnt do, sorry if this doesnt come across correct but this is the feelings of other smokers i know also a fellow cruiser linda
Boytjie Posted November 4, 2007 #102 Share Posted November 4, 2007 I don't smoke around children or old folks. (like me) What do you have against the people in the middle?

Cruising Caribbean Posted November 4, 2007 #104 Share Posted November 4, 2007 so you were on a ship, going 22 knots, in the middle of the pacific (where i'm sure there are strong winds - just like the transatlantics i've done ) and smoke was filling your balcony. LOL! oh my, and you could smell it, all over. how horrible  you should've gotten a free cruise. I guess complaining to the captain didn't warrant a free cruise. And actually, the smoke was filling the cabin, not just the balcony.
Julia’s Journey’s Posted November 4, 2007 #105 Share Posted November 4, 2007 to further your 'agenda'. some people wil stop at nothing. i think you are one of those types. glad we could save you some money, though. And what is my agenda and what type am I?? I stated my experience on this last cruise, the facts as they are, I am actually not anti smoking and if I go to a place that is smoking I tolerate it like casino, I was upset we couldn't enjoy our balcony because of the smoke so we went and sat upstairs where the smoke never bothered us, what more would you smokers have liked us to do???

Cruising Caribbean Posted November 4, 2007 #107 Share Posted November 4, 2007 Actually I tolerated it, just stayed off my balcony - you have no idea what kind of person I am!!! I was stating the facts as they are and because it doesn't gell with your intolerant attitude you are accusing me of lying and being intolerant etc etc   I am very sorry Julia, I never said you were lying, I even said that it doesn't mean it isn't true, just means that I find it hard to believe and that's my problem. Also, intolerance means that you didn't tolerate it and kept the doors closed, isn't that what you said? I am very sorry...I didn't mean to offend you or call you a liar. I actually think it's a little sad that you can't enjoy a blacony because you were so worked up about the smoke.

Cruising Caribbean Posted November 4, 2007 #113 Share Posted November 4, 2007 ...And guess what, the bars and restaurants did not lose business as they had predicted. Well I will tell you that during the non smoking night in the casino, there were far fewer people gambling and that I saw.

Thankfully I don't need a free cruise which was the furtherest thing from my mind, but obviously that would be 'your' agenda. I stated the facts and the times we wanted to be on the balcony was coming into port and leaving the ports which are the times the ship is not doing 22 knots and when obviously our neighbors were enjoying there time on their balconies. Perhaps that's the plan for Princess but for now, suffice it to say that smoking is allowed in the cabins. At least that's what the Princess website says. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. But please, don't keep smoking because some non-smokers annoy you - very wrong reason to smoke! You aren't spiting them. And just as all smokers aren't inconsiderate, not all non-smokers and ex-smokers are all bad and all the same. I was lucky, giving it up was not that hard. Then there was by BIL that wouldn't stop, smoked a lot (a couple of packs a day) and it seemed he would keep doing it forever. We all nagged him, to no avail. But then when he did decide to stop, he did the patch for about a week and then went off that and never smoked again. You just never know what works and when. Once again, good luck! Better not let me catch you drift anywhere with your posts! Lighten up. No, I did not say "light up". too late. i already lit up :p staying on topic is just the courteous thing to do. whenever smoking comes up, the nannies always bring up the restaurant thing. you can't smoke in restaurants on the ship so it is irrelavant. as for bloomburg - he's just another politician. no better or worse. I think I was very tolerant of it, I don't have to subject myself to it to be tolerant, I made other plans and didn't want my kids coming to spend time on our balcony with all the smoke so we spent time elsewhere with them, if I wasn't tolerant I would have asked the neighbors to not smoke. Also DH didn't specifically run to the Captain about it, they were talkin g in the pool one day about the ship in general as it was going into dry dock and it came up. I think people on these boards need to start being more tolerent of other people differing opinions.
Boytjie Posted November 4, 2007 #122 Share Posted November 4, 2007 Well I will tell you that during the non smoking night in the casino, there were far fewer people gambling and that I saw. That is one think I have noticed in casinos everywhere (yes, even land based ones like in Las Vegas!): there always seem to be more smokers that non-smokers. Then again, if the non-smokers know it is going to be very smoky (and casinos usually are), they may stay away even though they would have liked to go in. I have left casinos when the smoke got too bad. The casino gets less of my money - which I guess is good for me and not for them!
